Lift the Ban Bristol
Lift the Ban Bristol
Why this petition matters
Poverty. Isolation. Despair.
Currently asylum seekers are forced to live on £5.39 a day, with no oppurtunity to work, and subsequently to feel fully included in their communities and lead happy, productive lives.
We demand that Bristol City Council passes a motion to support lifting the ban on asylum seekers working in the UK.
Recent surveys prove that 71% of the British population support lifting the ban and feel it is an unfair, cruel policy. Add your voice so this is heard.
We call on Bristol City Council to:
- Pass the motion to support lifting the ban, putting pressure on the Government to make real legislative change.
- Join the national Lift The Ban coalition and play an active role in it. Use Bristol’s status as a large, influential city to lobby other councils in the South West and Wales to join the coalition.
- Improve accessibility and availability of language classes for asylum seekers in the city of Bristol, to equip people with the tools they need to excel in the workplace.
- Increase the number of spaces available in homeless shelters to support those that the ban has pushed into destitution.
