    Chief Mirtha Ramos

I've been a cop for a while, however new to this whole MDPD world. Can some one help with a few comments? Who is this Chief Ramos? What is her story? I've seen some really really micromanaging techniques, horrible decisions and some pencil pushing mistakes that only non-police administrators make in my short time here. How does a person like this make it to such a rank?

She thinks that people will respect her because she is quick to use the power that comes with her rank to punish and discipline, even when unwarranted. She found a slight strength over the other average sworn personnel in that she possesses a better command of grammar than them. As a result, she lavishes in rejecting paperwork. In her mind, this shows everyone how intelligent she is. This is how she earned the nickname 'Chief Comma.'

She will unabashedly tell people that she has "more balls" than some other person. She is a foul-mouthed immature girl. Not a woman. She thinks she is the shít by acting "tough." For whatever reason, she either doesn't know that this is not the way to earn respect or she simply doesn't care to earn it.

There are some who supervise by threat, coercion, and force. Then there are those that LEAD by earning their subordinates' respect and admiration, through their example, intelligence and even charm. These are two very different and distinct groups of leaders/ supervisors.

She is quick to punish and discipline subordinates. She thinks people will respect her by acting "tough." She has found a personal strength in that she possesses a better set of grammar skills than other average sworn personnel. She must believe that this exhibits her self-perceived superior intelligence. As a result, she revels in rejecting paperwork for minutia. This is how she earned the nickname 'Chief Comma.'

She unabashedly will tell you that she has "more balls" than some other person. She is a foul-mouthed immature girl, more akin to a high school 'chusma.' Not a woman.

For whatever reason, she either doesn't realize that she is not respected by others in the department, or she simply doesn't care to earn respect. It is said that true respect is earned, not bestowed. I wonder if Chief Ramos understands this.

There are some who supervise by threat, coercion, and intimidation. Then there are other who LEAD by example, intelligence, and even charm. These are two very separate and distinct camps. Unfortunately, the MDPD has increasingly become more top heavy with those of the former camp. Chief Ramos was promoted for reasons other that her skill, savvy, leadership or example. She joins a growing list of others like her.

She is an embarrassment to all sworn personnel and especially to women, who whether you agree or not, have to really go above and beyond to make it in this profession.

She is foul mouthed and lets the n-word flow freely like a hood-rat while in group settings. Just ask anyone who has spent time around her. She thinks people see her as if she’s ‘cool’ but in reality she is embarrassing herself.

My spouse and I attended a retirement function at which she was present. Later on, my spouse asked me who that rude & vulgar person was. What could I say. That is my MDPD; she is our future. Hence, the ship has sunk & the organization has imploded.

What her mouth did at the back of the north side station with a few high ranking officials is how she’s where she’s at. That mouth game is strong

As a male sergeant, I agree with you. There are some very good female officers I know and respect that work hard in this job, and are ladies at the same time. THey may not be the physically strongest on average, but have many other qualities to make up for that - smart , can calm a situation, professional, trustworthy. If I were female Id be embarrassed to have Mirtha as a rep for women in law enforcement profession.

Thanks for the detailed insight. As a new, but old person, to this MDPD of today I am in aw with what I've seen thus far. Everything I hear, everything I see, is prefixed with, "Let's ask the Chief". My goodness how does anything get done around here? The rank structure is much heavier here than what I'm used to, which I believed would lead to more efficiency. Apparently that's not the case.

Director, you spoke to us in an amusing fashion, at least I found it amusing, the younger officers ate your crap up. When does everything you spoke of start? How is it that we do our jobs when these individuals you have put in place are the proverbial pebble in the gear box? It appears that we can't take a step forward without counting with her and taking three steps backwards.

This is not what I expected from a Department that has been in my family through three generations. I'm beginning to doubt my career change.

She is a mean incompetent person for sure. How does she make it? Simple: supply and demand! Not enough qualified people of color at that level, thus she becomes the next best thing. These days we all must accept that skill, loyalty or qualification take a back seat to,window dressing as it's called
