With the rapid growth in offshore wind infrastructure currently underway, it has never been more important to understand the near-surface geology of our seabed’s.
Dogger Bank, in the southern North Sea, is the proposed site for four windfarms, totalling an anticipated 5 GW of generation capacity. Big turbines need big foundations! These foundations will be up to 50 m below the seabed. The complicated glacial, terrestrial, coastal and marine stratigraphy at Dogger Bank therefore needs to be well constrained to minimise costs and avoid failure.
This talk will look at the geological and geomorphic evolution of Dogger Bank over the last 30,000 years.
