Creative Manchester Poetry Competition 2021 themed around ‘Space’

Creative Manchester, in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and the Geological Society, launches The University of Manchester 2021 Micropoetry competition to celebrate the Geological Society’s ‘Year of Space’.

To enter, participants are invited to write a space-themed micropoem and tweet their poem with the hashtag #micropoem21. The theme is packed with infinite possibilities; the solar system, meteorites, comets, planets, moons and stars. The main challenge for participants will be compressing their cosmic, poetic thoughts into 280 characters.

The competition launches on World Poetry Day – Sunday 21 March 2021 – and ends on the longest day of the year, Monday 21 June 2021.

Prizes

The prizes for the best three poems are:

  • 1st prize £500
  • 2 runner up prizes, each at £250
  • 10 pairs of tickets for Literature Live, autumn 2021 programme

Authors of the top three micropoems will be invited to attend a celebration event in September 2021 and to read their poem along with published poets.
