Supporting young people through the COVID-19 pandemic
New Partner: Advancing Knowledge to Inform Youth Employment Policies in North Macedonia
 
Finance Think, an economic research and policy institute in North Macedonia, has pledged a commitment to Decent Jobs for Youth to generate knowledge in support of the development of evidence-based national policies and strategies to improve young people’s access to decent jobs. Knowledge products will inform policy-makers and other youth employment stakeholders and promote youth rights and voices in employment strategies. Finance Think also aims to increase youth awareness of their labour rights. Read more
 
Free online course on youth employment and child labour
New Partner: Boosting Employment Opportunities for Disadvantaged Youth in Kenya
 
Garden of Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization that creates sustainable socio-economic opportunities for youth, women, and children through leadership, entrepreneurship training and mentorship, has pledged a commitment to Decent Jobs for Youth. The Foundation will equip 2,000 young people with business and entrepreneurship skills, and facilitate youth’s access to finance by 2024, with a focus on youth from rural communities and informal settlements in Kenya. Read more
 
Knowledge-sharing on gender, COVID-19, and youth unemployment in Africa
New Partner: Young Mothers in Argentina Equipped with Digital and Soft Skills
 
Eidos Global, a non-profit organisation that develops educational solutions for making a social impact, has committed to equip young mothers in Argentina with automation skills and soft skills for pursuing a career in STEM. Through its free training programme in testing and SQL, “Plan Azurduy”, Eidos Global aims to equip young mothers with technical and soft skills to succeed in tech jobs while helping to close the gender gap in the industry. Read more

Equipping 25 million people with the digital skills needed for the Covid-19 economy
Launched: new African Policy Dialogues focusing on Youth, Women & Smallholder Farmers
 
To entrench policy dialogues and strengthen research uptake in Africa, INCLUDE has established three new African Policy Dialogues (APDs) in Niger, Mali and Mozambique. The APDs are part of INCLUDE’s innovative demand-based approach to evidence use in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes in Africa. APDs identify priority national policy issues, are driven by local actors, synthesize rigorous evidence and utilize diverse research uptake strategies including tapping into ongoing national policy discussions. New podcast series on COVID-19 and the World of Work
The Learning Passport expands to new countries, accelerating the response to the COVID-19 crisis
 
The Learning Passport is a collaboration between UNICEF, Microsoft and The University of Cambridge to address the challenges faced by over 30 million children and youth to access continued, quality education due to disruptions caused by crisis and displacement. Due to COVID-19, a rapid expansion was done to facilitate country-level curriculum for children and young people whose schools have been forced to close. Currently the Learning Passport is available in Timor-Leste, Ukraine, Somalia (Puntland) and Jordan. Honduras, Kosovo and Zimbabwe will soon launch the platform and an additional 20+ other countries are exploring deployments. Read More

Youth@Heart Virtual Forum on Youth, Education and Work
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands will host a virtual forum on youth, education and work. The event will focus on governments, businesses and civil society’s responses to challenges and the action needed for a more inclusive future for young people. The UN Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth will share its knowledge and action as a partner through a session on Youth & COVID-19. Event Website and Registration
 
22 October
Virtual Roundtable: Investing in Decent Jobs and Enhancing Skills for Youth in Africa’s Digital Economy
On 22 October, the ILO, the ITU and the AU will hold a virtual discussion with government, workers’ and employers representatives as well as development partners to scale-up action for decent jobs for youth in Africa’s digital economy. The event will include multi-stakeholder dialogues on concrete interventions on digital skills, jobs creation and employment services in the digital era. Joint Action: MoU Launch on Skills between UNICEF and ILO
The virtual event will highlight the achievement of UNICEF-ILO collaboration on skills development and youth employment, marking the launch of a MoU on Skills between the two organizations. The dialogue on alignment, synergies and collaboration opportunities will bring together UNICEF, ILO, Generation Unlimited (GenU), and Decent Jobs for Youth stakeholders and amplify the voices of youth participants.

22-24 September
Decent Jobs for Youth at UN General Assembly
This year the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has gone to the digital space with an open and inclusive SDG Action Zone running from 22 to 24 September. The session on the Future of Work: Digital Skills and Decent Jobs for Youth delivered an engaging conversation with young experts on opportunities to leverage technology for decent work and economic recovery. The session served as an opportunity to invite organizations to join the UN Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth to scale up action and impact on youth employment in support of the 2030 Agenda. Check out the SDG Action Zone’s Full Program and List of Speakers.

Virtual: Back to School: How to Succeed with Online Learning
On 22 September, Education For Employment (EFE) and Accenture held an engaging and lively debate on how to succeed in this changed environment and overcome the challenges associated with this new form of learning. This event was part of EFE’s online Resilient Series aimed at providing different perspectives and insights on how to continue empowering youth potential amid challenging times.

Youth Voices and Youth Solutions on International Youth Day
On 12 August 2020, SOS Children's Villages organized a virtual meeting, which brought together young people supported through its programmes across Latin America and Caribbean to share information on their initiatives and perspectives about education and employability. The event featured two panels on “Engaging Young People in the Challenges of Orientation, Education, Employability and Entrepreneurship.”, and “the impact of COVID-19 on youth and their involvement in the response."
