The Spanish and the Portuguese citizenship laws for the decedents of the Sephardi Jews are a personal journey of linking between the past and the future. We would like to share with you an emotive post that one of our customers wrote expressing her feelings of deep connection with her family history upon successfully completing the Spanish citizenship process. הושלם תהליך קבלת האזרחות עבור שי ודרור מתוקף היותן צאצאיות למגורשי ספרד

אי אלו שנים לפני שהיטלר הצליח לטלטל את חייהם בשנית, הענף הספרדי במשפחתי נדחק לבחירה אמיצה וטראומתית לא פחות...סב סבי X13 נאלץ להיפרד מ 1500 שנים של הסטוריה משפחתית מלאה ומאושרת בחצי האי האיברי, ולברוח מאימת האינקויזיציה הספרדית כשהוא חסר כל... כך מספרת ההיסטוריה...ב 1492, השנה שבה קולומבוס גילה את אמריקה, 200,000 יהודים שיהדותם היתה להם חשובה יותר מחייהם נמלטו על נפשם ועלו על סירות אל עבר הלא הנודע... 
במשך 500 השנים שעברו מאז השתמרה הזהות והמורשת הספרדית בקרב המשפחות על אף שהתערבבה בתרבות המדינות אליהן נמלטו ובהן בנו חיים חדשים מאפס (טורקיה, מדינות הבלקן, צפון אפריקה, אמריקה ועוד) - השמות, התפילות, הלדינו, מאכלים ומנהגים...

זכות גדולה היא לסגור מעגל בדור שלנו - עם מי שאנחנו ומאיפה שבאנו - ועם הפנים קדימה, להשיב למשפחותינו היום, מעט ממה שנגזל מהן אז...רבים מהספרדים הנוצרים הם אנדרטה חיה לכל אותם יהודים אנוסים שבחרו להישאר ולנסות לשמר את יהדותם בסתר (בטווח הארוך, ללא הצלחה). גם עבורם וגם עבור יהודים רבים בספרד מדובר בפיסת היסטוריה משמעותית שהשתיקה היתה יפה לה.בשנה האחרונה בזכות חוק חדש (וזמני... רק עד אוק' 2018) רבים מבניה ובנותיה האבודים של ספרד חוזרים לקבל את אזרחותם - אנחנו ביניהם

"A significant moment in life.

The process of obtaining the Spanish citizenship for Shai and Dror is now completed as descendants of the expelled Jews from Spain.

Many years before Hitler managed to shake their lives again, the Sephardi branch of my family was pushed into a courageous and equally traumatic choice. My grandfather X13 was forced to part from 1500 years of what used to be a full and happy life in the Iberian Peninsula in order to escape from the horrors of the Spanish Inquisition with only his cloths at his possession, as the history books tell us.
In 1492, the same year that Columbus discovered the new continent, 200,000 Jews whose Judaism was more important to them than their own lives, fled their homes and boarded on boats to an unknown future. 

During the 500 years that have passed since then, the Sephardic identity and heritage of these families reflected in their Sephardi names, prayers, the Ladino, food and culture have been preserved though slightly mixed with the culture of their hosting countries in which they built their new lives from the ruins (Turkey, the Balkans, North Africa, America and more). 

It is a great privilege to be able to close a circle with who we are and from where we come from and look forward to return to our families a little of what was taken from them. Many of today´s Spaniards are a living monument to all the crypto-Jews who chose to stay and tried to preserve their Judaism in secret (in the long run without success). For them, as well as for the Jews who now live in Spain, this is a significant untold piece of history.

In the last year, thanks to a new law (a temporary law just until October 2018) many of the lost sons and daughters of Spain claim their birthright for a Spanish citizenship - we are among them.
