Welcome

Hi <<First Name>>

As we head towards Christmas, if last year is anything to go by, then we could expect the figures for this year's badger cull to be announced by the Government ahead of the parliamentary recess.

With the cull having taken place in twenty-one zones this year, we know the figures will make for grim reading, so we'll purposely leave bringing any news on that front until next year.

As the cull has rolled out to even more areas, we're always amazed by the resilience of people, both locals and those from further afield, who year-on-year, step up to protect badgers.  This year Mid Devon Badger Patrol has got itself up and running and is keeping the momentum up by holding monthly walks in the Mid Devon cull zone.  Wiltshire Against The Badger Cull had to put all its years of preparation into action as it faced its first year of culling, and just this month, Teignbridge Against The Badger Cull has launched to help protect badgers in the Teignbridge cull zone.  Information about these new groups can be found further down in this newsletter and their contact details have been added at the end of this newsletter.

But for now, we'd like to wish everyone a peaceful Christmas and New Year.  Have fun and recharge your batteries, both figuratively and literally as there will be plenty of work to be done in 2018!

Somerset Against The Badger Cull's look back at 2017 - video

It's been a busy year for all the groups, and for Somerset Against The Badger Cull, this year has been no exception.

This short video looks back over what's happened in 2017 in  Somerset.
A busy year for Somerset Against The Badger Cull

Mid Devon Badger Patrol

Mid Devon Badger Patrol has had a busy year, forming up and starting its peaceful patrols along the footpaths of Mid Devon.

With the group now firmly established, it's keeping the ball rolling with monthly walks in the zone.  The first walk took place on 2 December setting off from Danes Wood.

If you'd like to join in these walks or get involved with the group in any way, you can make contact through the group's Facebook page.

Teignbridge Against The Badger Cull

Another new group forming up this year is Teignbridge Against The Badger Cull.  This group has been set up to work under the umbrella of Devon and Cornwall Against The Badger Cull and as such shares its aims.

The group is currently in the process of setting up small working groups to look after various tasks.
If you'd like to get involved, you can visit the group's Facebook page or drop them an email

Wiltshire Against The Badger Cull

Although Wiltshire Against The Badger Cull has been running for some years, 2017 was the year that the cull was rolled out to Wiltshire and the group had to start putting all its preparations into action.  With three zones running in the county, the group had its work cut out, but managed to be active in all of its zones.
Since the cull ended, the group has not been resting on its laurels.  It has been busy raising awareness at a recent vegan fair in Chippenham and is already out sett surveying in preparation for 2018.

You can reach the group through its Facebook page, send an email or ring 07486 522 049.

Animal of the month: badgers at Wytham Woods - video

Dstinctive and familiar, loved and loathed by different sections of the public, the badger is iconic of the British countryside. But Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) has discovered that, due to their sensitivity to prevailing weather, badgers, like the proverbial canary in a coal mine, are also sentinels of climate change.  Read the full article.
