Buy one margarita, get one free!

National Tequila Day is Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Tequila lovers can celebrate their love for the famous Mexican spirit by enjoying a buy one, get one free deal on margaritas at Felipe's Mexican Taqueria.

Felipe's classic handmade key-lime margaritas are made fresh to order. The simple recipe includes 100% blue agave tequila, fresh squeezed key limes, a house-made orange liqueur, and agave syrup. Staying true to its mission of curating authentic recipes, the Felipe's team traveled to the Herradura distillery in Jalisco, Mexico and handpicked the Double Barrel Reposado tequila which is aged for up to a year in a charred oak barrel and then re-barreled into a virgin white oak barrel for one month more.

National Tequila Day falls on Taco Tuesday this year. Reposado tequila is the perfect compliment to any of Felipe's authentic scratch-made recipes, especially our tacos.

The Gospel According to André
2017, 93 min, PG-13
Director: Kate Novack
Cast: André Leon Talley, Naomi Campbell, Sean 'Diddy' Combs

André Leon Talley has been a fixture in the world of fashion for so long that it's difficult to imagine a time when he wasn't defining the boundaries of great style. Kate Novack's intimate portrait, The Gospel According to André, takes viewers on an emotional journey from André's roots growing up in the segregated Jim Crow South to become one of the most influential tastemakers and fashion curators of our times. Novack's film draws fascinating, heretofore unexplored connections, between the elegance of André's beloved grandmother and the Black Church of his youth and his later iconic, barrier-breaking work at publications like Women's Wear Daily, W and Vogue. Weaving together a wealth of archival footage from the most glamorous moments in fashion history with André's poignant reflections on his life and career, The Gospel According to André is a cinematic monument to one of the most unique figures of 20th Century American culture. Produced by the team who brought viewers The First Monday in May and Page One: Inside The New York Times and featuring commentary from fashion luminaries Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and countless others, The Gospel According to André is an indispensable addition to the growing canon of fashion documentary.

Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat
2017, 78min, Not Rated
Director: Sara Driver
Cast: Alexis Adler, Fab 5 Freddy, Patricia Field

BOOM FOR REAL: THE LATE TEENAGE YEARS OF JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT follows Basquiat's life pre-fame and how New York City, the times, the people and the movements surrounding him formed the artist he became. Using never-before-seen works, writings and photographs, director Sara Driver, who was part of the New York arts scene herself, worked closely and collaboratively with friends and other artists who emerged from that period: Jim Jarmusch, James Nares, Fab Five Freddy, Glenn O'Brien, Kenny Scharf, Lee Quinones, Patricia Field, Luc Sante and many others. Drawing upon their memories and anecdotes, the film also uses period film footage, music and images to visually re-recreate the era, drawing a portrait of Jean-Michel and Downtown New York City -pre AIDS, President Reagan, the real estate and art booms - before anyone was motivated by money and ambition. The definition of fame, success and power were very different than today - to be a penniless but published poet was the height of success, until everything changed in the early 1980s. This is New York City's story before that change. Directed by Sara Driver

Mountain
2017, 74min, PG
Director: Jennifer Peedom
Writers: Robert Macfarlane, Jennifer Peedom
Narrator: Willem Dafoe

Only three centuries ago, setting out to climb a mountain would have been considered close to lunacy. Mountains were places of peril, not beauty, an upper world to be shunned, not sought out. Why do mountains now hold us spellbound, drawing us into their dominion, often at the cost of our lives? From Tibet to Australia, Alaska to Norway armed with drones, Go-Pros and helicopters, director Jennifer Peedom has fashioned an astonishing symphony of mountaineers, ice climbers, free soloists, heliskiers, snowboarders, wingsuiters and parachuting mountain bikers. Willem Dafoe provides a narration sampled from British mountaineer Robert Macfarlane's acclaimed memoir Mountains of the Mind, and a classical score from the Australian Chamber Orchestra accompanies this majestic cinematic experience. Directed by Jennifer Peedom.

Love, Cecil
2017, 98min, Not Rated
Director: Lisa Immordino Vreeland
Cast: Cecil Beaton, Hamish Bowles, Leslie Caron

Oscar-winning set and costume designer, photographer, writer and painter Cecil Beaton was not only a dazzling chronicler, but an arbiter of his time. From the Bright Young Things to the front lines of war to the international belle monde and the pages of Vogue and then onto the Queen's official photographer, Beaton embodied the cultural and political changes of the twentieth century. In this tender portrait, director Lisa Immordino Vreeland (Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict) blends archival footage and photographs with voice over of Beaton's famed diaries to capture his legacy as a complex and unique creative force. Dynamic and lyrical, LOVE, CECIL is an examination of Beaton's singular sense of the visual, which dictated a style that set standards of creativity that continue to resonate and inspire today. Narrated by Rupert Everett. Directed by Lisa Immordino Vreeland.

Film Worker
2017, 94min, Not Rated
Director: Tony Zierra
Cast: Leon Vitali, Ryan O'Neal, Danny Lloyd

Candid, often funny and sometimes shocking, this utterly fascinating documentary gives unique insight into the creative genius of one of cinema's greatest directors-and the man who helped him fulfill his vision. It's a rare person who would give up fame and fortune to toil in obscurity for someone else's creative vision. Yet that's exactly what Leon Vitali did after his acclaimed performance as Lord Bullingdon in Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. The young actor surrendered his thriving career to become Kubrick's loyal right-hand man and jack of all trades. For more than two decades, Leon played a crucial role behind-the-scenes helping the notoriously meticulous Kubrick make and maintain his legendary body of work. The complex, interdependent relationship between Leon and Stanley was founded on devotion, sacrifice and the grueling, joyful reality of the creative process. Leon's loyal service did not end with Kubrick's death in 1999; it is thanks to his fanatical dedication that Kubrick's oeuvre is preserved in the quality that the master would have demanded. With Ryan O'Neal, Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Stellan Skarsgård, Daniel Lloyd, Marie Richardson, Pernilla August and others. Directed by Tony Zierra.

Examining public rituals, controversial monuments, and whitewashed historical tourism, Denmark Vesey's Garden tracks rival memories from the Civil War all the way to contemporary times, where two segregated tourism industries still reflect these opposing impressions of the past, exposing a hidden dimension of America's deep racial divide. Denmark Vesey's Garden joins the small bookshelf of major, paradigm-shifting new interpretations of slavery's enduring legacy in the United States.

Join us with authors Ethan J. Kytle and Blain Roberts as they discuss and sign their book, Demark Vesey's Garden: Slavery and Memory in the Cradle of the Confederacy.

Bat Boy: The Musical was inspired by a series of tabloid headlines published in 1992 by The Weekly World News claiming that a terrifying creature, half-man and half-bat, had been discovered in a cave, escaped, and was being pursued by government officials. In Farley, Flemming, and O'Keefe's musical rendering of the story, a group of spelunking West Virginian teenagers discover the creature near Hope Falls. For lack of a better solution, the sheriff brings him to the local veterinarian (Dr. Parker's) home, where he begins to assimilate to human life and become a part of the Parker family while trying to keep his penchant for sucking human blood under control. Meredith, Dr. Parker's wife, and Shelley, his daughter, become increasingly close with the creature, whom they name Edgar, while Dr. Parker becomes more and more wary of his assimilation into the human world. When Edgar tries to ingratiate himself with the townfolk of Hope Falls, he is quickly rejected, and he and Shelley (who fall in love) run away together. After a single night of joyous freedom, tragedy strikes when Meredith finds them and reveals the dark secret of Bat Boy's origin. With a beat-driven rock score that pays homage to the rock musicals of the late '60s and early '70s, Bat Boy provides a compelling theatrical metaphor for the dangers of prejudice and intolerance.

New Orleans couldn't pass Louis Armstrong's birthday without a grand affair. Held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint, Satchmo Summerfest celebrates Pops' birthday with music, food, and a second-line parade appropriately dubbed the "Satchmo Strut." The fest also includes seminars, discussions, and speakers focused on Louis Armstrong and his contributions to New Orleans - and the world.

Don't skip your laundry this week, y'all. Every year, a mass of white clothing takes over Julia Street as guests explore art galleries in the Warehouse District. What started as a way to revive the downtown's art district, has grown into one of the summer's most anticipated events. Channeling days gone by in New Orleans where residents donned white to reflect the summer sun, guests roam in an out of art galleries with handheld fans in tow on this evening celebration.

Don't put those linens in the wash just yet because Dirty Linen Night rolls through the French Quarter the following weekend! Join in as folks stroll down Royal Street to see the art galleries. Shopkeepers give away free dirty martinis and dirty rice too!

Lionel Milton Selected as Poster Artist
Posters Now Available Online!
Congratulations to our 2018 Satchmo SummerFest poster artist Lionel Milton! This year's vibrant painting features a young Louis joyfully parading through the streets of New Orleans. Historic St. Augustine Catholic Church, site of the annual Satchmo SummerFest Jazz Mass, is featured in the background.

Lionel Milton started his career as a graffiti artist, and his colorful style and energy are captured in the poster. Milton has been commissioned by collectors and companies worldwide, including Uber, ESPN, Red Bull, and Heineken. "I am honored to create the 2018 Satchmo poster. As an artist and native New Orleanian, Satchmo's music was part of my childhood. He was one of the greatest cultural contributors ever! My art is like visual jazz," said Milton

The poster is now available online , and the original painting will be auctioned at the Satchmo SummerFest Kickoff Party or sold directly for $6,500. For more information contact  rschick@fqfi.org

The National Underwear Day Parade New Orleans begins and ends at the Elephant Collective art studio, 3610 Toulouse Street in Mid-City, starting at 7 p.m., Aug. 5. Participants, attired in combinations of briefs, bikinis, brassieres, boxers, boyshorts and what have you will circle Bayou St. John in, what's  the press release describes as, "a promotion of body positivity and liberation from the tyranny of outer-garments."
The parade will cross the Bayou at the Magnolia (Cabrini) Bridge at Harding Drive if the ongoing renovation work is complete, or Dumaine Street if it is not.
The modesty-free procession is being organized by Ryan Ballard (one of the founders of the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus Mardi Gras marching parade). Asked if he had any dress code guidelines, Ballard said: "If you're wondering what to wear, wear less."
According to online sources, underwear Day was established by the undergarment industry in 2003. Paraders are encouraged to bring a package of freshly purchased undergarments which will be donated to New Orleans' homeless. In lieu of charity underwear, participants are asked to pay a $5 admission. A pre-parade gathering party begins at 5 p.m. and the event is followed by a free "extravaganza of exhibitionism" ball.

Every 1st & 3rd Tuesday!

Renowned jazz vocalist Stephanie Jordan created Jazz Pilates which is set to the recorded music of major jazz composers like John Coltrane, Kidd Jordan, and Kent Jordan. Stephanie Jordan developed her Jazz Pilates technique after receiving her certification from Wise Body Pilates. Jazz Pilates integrates traditional Pilates and dance movements with jazz to enhance the mind-body-spirit connection. It is a muscle lengthening and strengthening program designed to improve balance and transform the body so that it functions at optimal capacity.

Jordan believes that the whole fitness movement is too focused on "Buy a membership, join a spa, purchase this equipment and you'll be beautiful." Jazz Pilates participants are able to use what they were born with-their bodies. The New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old US Mint provides the perfect venue to allow French Market District/ New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park visitors to create movements that is beneficial to both physical and mental health-in a mere 45 - minutes to an hour. Participants are introduced to the works of major jazz composers and performers while developing a lifelong physical fitness and emotional wellness through arts and fitness integration.

With all of the distractions in the world, the human body naturally retains the basic urge to create movement, to physically "get a lot of stuff out." Jazz Pilates is designed to improve balance and transform the body so patrons may function at optimal capacity while working, playing, or just living life to the fullest.

Please bring your own fitness mat and arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins.

Louis Armstrong's cornet from when he was a resident of the Municipal Waif's Home for Boys, 1913-14

Through dynamic interactive exhibits, multigenerational educational programming, research facilities and engaging musical performances, the music New Orleans made famous is explored in all its forms.

Housed in the historic Old U.S. Mint, strategically located at the intersection of the French Quarter and the Frenchmen Street live music corridor, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is in the heart of the city's vibrant music scene.

Through partnerships with local, national and international educational institutions, the New Orleans Jazz Museum promotes the global understanding of jazz as one of the most innovative, historically pivotal musical art forms in world history.

Jazz Collection

The New Orleans Jazz Museum's collection is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the world.

The Jazz Collection chronicles the music and careers of the men and women who created, enhanced and continue in the tradition of New Orleans jazz at the local, national and international levels. It consists of instruments, pictorial sheet music, photographs, records, tapes, manuscripts and other items ranging from Louis Armstrong's first coronet to a 1917 disc of the first jazz recording ever made. It includes the world's largest collection of instruments owned and played by important figures in jazz- trumpets, cornets, trombones, clarinets and saxophones played by jazz greats such as Bix Beiderbecke, Edward "Kid" Ory, George Lewis, Sidney Bechet and Dizzy Gillespie.

Other artifacts in the Jazz Collection include some 12,000 photographs from the early days of jazz; recordings in a wide variety of formats, including over 4,000 78 rpm records that date from 1905 to the mid-1950s, several thousand 12-inch LPs and 45 rpm records, approximately 1,400 reel-to-reel tapes; posters, paintings and prints; hundreds of examples of sheet music from late 19th-century ragtime to popular songs of the 1940s and 1950s - many of them first editions that became jazz standards; several hundred rolls of film featuring concert and nightclub footage, funerals, parades, and festivals; hundred of pieces of relevant ephemera; and architectural fragments from important jazz venues...

FAQs
What does the dinner include?
Each dinner is six-courses with wine pairings.
Dress Code?
Dress for a nicer evening out. We recommend jackets for men, but a tie is not necessary.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No. We will have a list with attendee names.
Is seafood the only item served?
This is a seafood dinner, so the dishes will all feature fish or shellfish.
When can I see the menu?
With seafood, we want the freshest available product, which sometimes isn't known until right before the dinner. We will do our best to get menu information out as early as possible, but trust us, whatever these chefs make is going to be delicious.
Can menu subsitutions be made?
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate menu substitutions.
