UK Hub celebrates Coventry’s e-scooter launch

The UK Hub was present at the trial launch for the electric scooters from the company VOI, a new sustainable mode of transportation available to rent from 10th September, at Birmingham and Coventry. Their access is via a VOI phone app, ensuring safety and regulation for users. As the lockdown eases and people are still avoiding public transport, e-scooters are a socially distanced and environmentally friendly alternative. The trial has introduced a range of discounts for essential workers during the pandemic. The trials were brought forward for this summer, being originally planned only for 2021 in the UK.

Studies show that e-scooters still struggle with matters of accessibility and inclusivity. The latest data from the US and France presents males and higher-income households as the demographics of its users. A number of reasons can be behind this, ranging from social perception of scooters as ‘male gadgets’ to limited geographical coverage beyond city centres. However, TInnGO is hoping that by collaborating with VOI, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), and Coventry City Council, we can share our expertise and knowledge, working to make it more sustainable, accessible and inclusive transport for all.
