  • Creative Assistants for Online Events

We are seeking keen, caring and enthusiastic people to lead activities at our online events, while making a positive impact on their community and supporting vulnerable adults.

We are committed to supporting your development in a way that reaches beyond volunteering, and our volunteer coordinator will help you create skills-based goals to access opportunities (e.g., employment) in the future.

  • Volunteer Befriender

This role gives volunteers the opportunity to provide distance befriending and become part of the dynamic and friendly team at the No.1 Be-friending Agency, significantly contributing to the reduction of loneliness and isolation amongst older people.

As a Telephone Befriender you will be matched with an older person and chat on the phone once or twice a week, helping to improve self-confidence by active listening and creating new opportunities.

  • Peer Supporter

We are looking for peer volunteers to work collaboratively with our Volunteer Coordinators, developing a peer support group programme for our telephone befriending volunteers during Covid-19.

This role provides the opportunity to become part of the No.1 Be-friending Agency team, working to reduce loneliness and isolation, by supporting the day to day work of the Volunteer team.

Reducing loneliness and isolation through companionship.

We are a social enterprise registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

Our mission is to promote fullness of life and reduce loneliness and isolation through friendship and companionship. We work mostly in Glasgow, although we sometimes provide services throughout Scotland.

We operate a befriending service that is free to the user with the help of our amazing volunteers. We also run The No.1 Care Agency, a bespoke person-centred care service with the help of our team of trained and friendly carers.

Our vision is to create connections and build confidence in and through the people we work with.

What Is Befriending?

Our befriending services connects trained volunteers with isolated, vulnerable people to spend some time together, have a wee chatter over a cup of tea, and share stories.

Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved with our work: volunteer with us as a driver or befriender, join our team, or support us with a donation. At the moment, we are raising money to allow us to continue our service during the COVID-19 crisis through our A Caring Cuppa campaign.

Virtual events

Our virtual events offer a wide range of social activities and a lot of fun for everyone who has been self-isolating and experiencing loneliness and isolation during these uncertain times. IT skills training is also offered to get everyone connected.

“I've not only got a befriender, but now I've got a good friend. We talk about everyday life, important factors in life and also funny stories. I look forward all week to that phone call. It's the highlight of my week."

- Walter, Befriendee
