Permission from Camden Council is subject to a section 106 legal agreement and referral to the Mayor of London for his direction.

Contractor ISG is lined-up for the  £280m programme of capital works needed to transform the dental hospital site at 256 Gray’s Inn Road.

It beat a heavyweight field of BAM, Bouygues, Laing O’Rouke and Sir Robert McAlpine to take the prestigious central London project.

Enabling works can now begin this autumn and, subject to final approval, building works are due to start early next year.

The work is scheduled to be completed late in 2023 and will be ready for occupation in early 2024.

Project involves refurbishment of the grade II listed Eastman Dental Clinic and the creation of a new building on the current site of the Levy Wing

Professor Michael Hanna, Director of UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, said: “This is a significant step in our journey to achieve a new building which began in a concrete form over seven years ago.”

Designed by architect Hawkins Brown with M&E consultant Hoare Lea, the building will target BREEAM Excellent rating, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 40% and produce low levels of waste going into landfill from the construction process.

The new building will be funded from a combination of UCL, public and philanthropic sources.
