The school opened in a new modern open-plan design building in September 1980 and was originally built for 600 pupils and a 4-form entry.

The Oscar Romero Building, Astroturf and Prayer Garden have been added over the years, and the school now has a 6-form entry and serves over 800 pupils. Yet throughout our history, the school has remained the same – a caring Catholic school serving the local community in line with our mission statement:

To ensure everyone within our school family achieves their full potential, to encourage learning and development through faith, and to strive for excellence

We are always pleased to hear about the successes and news of our former students, and how so many go on to great futures in college, university, apprenticeships or full-time employment.

We recognise that, through the strong bonds of friendship formed at St James’, many ex-pupils have remained strong friends. Over the years a number of past students and former members of staff have kept in touch with the school in some shape or form, whether it be as guests at whole school events, helping out with our careers programme or even coming back to work here as staff. As a former pupil of St James’, we would like to keep connected with you in whatever way suits you best, whether it be to help the school, to re-acquaint yourself with old friends or to simply stay in touch with us.
