Cupboards dirty some crockery dirty lots of dust around and rugs not clean. Lots of stuff around that was just not needed. Nice fire and welcome pack..

Thank you for providing this feedback. We're glad you liked the cottage and location but sorry to hear that the cleanliness was not up to our usual high standards. Had you contacted us, we would have rectified this during your stay. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

We had a wonderful week here and enjoyed reading all the history of this beautiful home which was comfortable with the best nights sleep and relaxing stay that we have had. Everything was on hand and the television in the bedroom was indeed a bonus. Perfect for two people who love a relaxing and peaceful stay in wonderful surroundings.

The shower water pressure is a too low, but probably there isn't much that can be down about that. Also, adding aerators to ALL faucets would make the water flow less splashy. Otherwise, the cottage is very charming, confortable, and I LOVED spending a week there.

For being so little and cute it never felt cramped, it was cozy. The terraced garden in the back with two sitting areas was lovely. Yes the bedroom floors were uneven and the door funky but that just added to the charm. Thank you for the teas, milk and cookies waiting for us! The booking process, check in and contacts with Sykes were smooth.

Very quiet at night. Well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bed; we appreciated the en-suite toilet upstairs as bathroom is downstairs. Lovely sunny garden. Helpful host. Parking, referred to as a significant problem by other reviewers, was not an issue for us, especially as day-trippers have usually gone by 5.00 pm. On one occasion when no space outside cottage was available, there were spaces on other side of road further along. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Full of original period features and with a lovely cottage garden, we found it perfect for what we wanted. Waking up under the eaves was a privilege and a pleasure..so was soaking in the modern spa bath after a days walking. The only issue was parking, but if we couldn't park by the cottage we parked in town which was only five minutes away..so no problem really. Loved the cottage and hope to return.

  • "Good location and reasonable facilities and comfort level for two people within the inevitable limitations of a historic cottage."

However, parking is a nightmare and must be even worse in high season, with space for only five or so cars on the road outside and some 8-10 nearby premises as well as day visitors competing for them. Also, a dishwasher would be much more useful than the washing machine (who wants to do a wash on a week's holiday?). In the absence of a dishwasher, a washing up brush would be nice!

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your stay despite the issues with parking - we hope this didn't impact your stay too much. We will pass on your comments regarding the washing machine/dishwasher - thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

Such a stunning beautiful historical sweet box cottage. Before we arrived and during our stay, owners Malcolm & Carol were very accommodating and attentive when contacted. Set 2 mins walk from the heart of beautiful Chipping Campden High Street and nearest pub (Red Lion Inn). The cottage was an absolute delight to return to after a day exploring the local region. Very warm, cosy and comfortable. Modern central heating and lounge gas fire which warmed up the whole downstairs very quickly. Two up, two down, although small, Thatched cottage is perfectly formed and didn’t feel small. Plenty of space for 2 or 3 with 2 cosy double bedrooms, (restricted to 3 guests only). En-suite toilet in master bedroom was a welcome surprise. Kitchen faultless, lounge very cosy, downstairs bathroom with jacuzzi bath was another welcomed surprise. Rear terrace garden with patio seating and BBQ would make a summer stay extra special. Parking is free, on street, in front of cottage. We managed to park directly outside 99% of the stay. Weekend parking was busier with locals & tourists using parking spaces but no issue to recall. So impressed with our stay I booked for my parents to stay as a birthday treat. Thank you Sykes and more so hosts Malcolm & Carol for a wonderful holiday. Highly recommend, 10/10. Simon & Irina

  • "The Thatched Cottage was very comfortable and an ideal base to explore the surrounding areas."

The location could not have been better. The cottage was well equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. It was smaller than I thought but that did not spoil our stay, it may not be very suitable for those with limited mobility as there are lots of steps and nooks and crannys as would be expected of a period property. It has a steep staircase and the two bedrooms have only a door separating them, which may be a problem wrt privacy for some and is not mentioned in the description online, and the door had many gaps!!This was not a problem for us but again may be for some. Despite this I will return to The Thatched Cottage on my next visit to the Cotswolds as it was so cute and Cody. Suggestions - I would have liked to have had a bin of some sort in the kitchen and the cleaners could be a bit more efficient with dusting.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Thatched Cottage. The properties listing will be updated to ensure that it gives those with mobility issues ample warning. The reason for both bedrooms sharing one door is due to the size and nature of the property, which can be seen in the photos. Your suggestions for improvement will be taken into consideration and we hope to welcome you back any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and we had an amazing week."

Lovely and cosy. Kitchen was really well stocked with utensils and crockery, not to mention the tea, milk and cake which was a nice touch that was greatly appreciated. Plentiful supply of washing up products and toilet rolls. Beds, sofa and chairs were all very comfortable, and the bed linen smelt lovely. The radio/CD player didn't seem to work. We are a close family so didn't mind walking through one bedroom to get to another but it's not overly clear from the property description. The bins outside were full when we arrived - not sure if we were supposed to put the bin out on Sunday night when we arrived - and also there was a bucket of bottles/cans. I couldn't see in the cottage information that there was a recycling bin, and from a quick google there didn't seem to be much recycling in the area, so we took ours home with us. A few very minor negatives but otherwise a fantastic location and like I said we had a great week.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues that you encountered during your stay and hope that these did not create a lasting impact on your retreat. We look forward to welcoming you back to Thatched Cottage any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "We love the Cotswolds and visit often and were pleased to find this lovely period thatched cottage."

We loved it's quirky period features unfortunately the cottage is let down by the cleanliness. I am not just referring to dust. The soft furnishings, doors and light fittings are dirty. The sofa is particularly bad, we felt it necessary to purchase some throws to make it more comfortable. I do wonder how the cottage is considered worthy of a five tick rating from Sykes and find it frustrating that the cottage needs to be vacant from 10am to 6pm for cleaning purposes and visitors are presented with a less than clean property.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologise that you did not feel the cleaning was up to the standard it should have been. We have notified the caretaking team about this to make sure it does not happen again. We have to allow for the long changeover due to the amount of properties which our caretaking team are required to clean, as well as extra time being needed for a full COVID clean. In additon, thank you for letting us know your thoughts on the sofa. We will make the owner aware of this. Latly, we hope you still enjoyed your stay with us in the Cotswolds. Property Owner

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us about your stay at Thatched Cottage. Please see below the owner's response to your feedback: The mattress was specially hand made to fit the antique brass bed. It is also fitted with a high quality (John Lewis) mattress topper, After the customers comments we travelled down to the cottage and stayed on Friday night. We found no problem with the mattress and we have not received any other adverse comments regarding comfort. However to avoid any further negative comments we have replaced it with a brand new mattress. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was characterful and well located, however the cleanliness was poor."

The oven door was filthy, cutlery and crockery was dirty, there were cobwebs through the house on beams and windows and the floor didn't look vacuumed. We were disgusted when we stripped the bed after our stay as there were stains on the mattress protector and pillows which is inexcusable. The sofa was worn, uncomfortable and stained in numerous places. It is such a shame as these things are easily rectified and previous reviews have eluded to bad cleaniness and this has not been addressed.... especially in these Covid times when extra cleaning time is given. This is not the standard we expect from Sykes.

  • "The location of the cottage is great-shops, pubs & restaurants all within walking distance."

However the cottage was disappointing. The cleanliness of the cottage was not brilliant. There was about 10-12 dead flies & wasps on the bedroom windowsill at the top of the stairs & was generally dusty & cobwebby. No kitchen bin provided & we had to search for bin bags. In the kitchen most things provided but both kitchen roll & cling film were practically empty & as I've not been self catering for many years (and only staying 3 days) I didn't think to take any. In the bathroom a dead spider & web still attached to light pull. No bath mat & sink plug didn't stay in. Bathroom is on ground floor accessed through kitchen & lounge-not ideal. There wasn't any welcome/local info provided by owner at the cottage. Yes, lots of leaflets near the front door but a welcome note would have been nice. I had however had an e-mail from the owner beforehand with wi fi codes & key collection details. No local info. At the end of the stay I wasn't expecting to have to strip the beds including mattress protectors. When I did this I wish I hadn't-the mattress protectors didn't look very clean. The owner states you can park outside the cottage but only if you're there first & don't move otherwise someone else takes the space. We had a great big white van parked outside the window for 2 of 3 nights so ended up parked at the other end of the street on the last night. Luckily another car moved on the morning of checkout, otherwise we would have had to take our bags in the pouring rain to the other end of the street.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on Thatched Cottage. We apologise for the cleanliness and maintenance issues that you encountered, the owner has contacted his caretaker regarding these. Due to Covid 19 owners were asked to take out welcome folders from the property and contact you electronically. In regards to the parking, we do mention in the description and in the pop up confirmation box that it is on street parking. We will amend this to say on street parking based on a first come first serve basis. There was wasps nest found and destroyed by a pest specialist. We are pleased to hear you liked the location. Had a toilet upstairs in the main bedroom which is handy and the bathroom downstairs was clean and had more than adequate space. The bedrooms themselves are quite large, plenty of room to dress and undress with ample space for storage. A garden at the back of the property with somewhere to sit. The parking outside the cottage was a case of first come first served, but we had no problems parking. The cottage is situated along one of the streets leading to the main shops, maybe a 10 minute walk, which has everything you may need, food, pubs serving food, art and craft shops and Tourist information. All in all a very delightful village not far from many of the tourist attractions.

  • "The cottage was characterful but unfortunately we had not appreciated that the location on Sheep Street would be so affected by traffic noise."

We live in a very quiet village so found it hard to sleep or relax in the cottage. Fortunately the weather was kind so that we could go out for days. I have learnt a valuable lesson and will in future always ask if a property is in a quiet location. Re the cottage itself the remote control for the fire did not work so we had to trouble Alison the caretaker (very kind and courteous) who confirmed that the remote didn't work and she came and sorted it out and left instructions re manual operation. In addition there were various stickers over extractor fans saying do not switch off. For example in downstairs bathroom it was switched off so I turned it on but then it didn't automatically switch off. One of my main bug bears is that cottage owners should ensure that everything is in working order including light bulbs. On the upside the beds were comfortable.
