MAPUTO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- An archaeological study is currently underway in Moatize district, Mozambique's western province of Tete, to understand the history of the former inhabitants in that mineral-rich region, said the mining company and the study's sponsor Vale Mozambique in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the study is aimed at exploring the life of the ancient local communities, including their daily lives and cultural practices, following the finding of various artifacts in the region.

Archaeologists working in the research have found different objects, mostly ancient and contemporary china in the district, which might be connected to the populations once lived in that space and crucial to reconstruct the history of the region, said the statement.

Being a multicultural province in Mozambique, the region of Tete was a Kiswahili trade center until it was occupied by Portugal in 1530. Enditem
