Outcomes

Part 1 with Christine Counsell: Why knowledge matters for disadvantaged pupils and why a broad curriculum is essential for improving literacy in general and reading in particular. The session will illustrate these themes through a detailed look at how to build a Key Stage 2 humanities curriculum, and the impact it has over time. The session will explain Ofsted’s four buzzwords - scope, rigour, coherence, sequencing - in relation to the whole-school leadership necessary for systematic planning and renewal of a carefully sequenced curriculum in geography, history and religion.

Part 2 with Tom Sherrington: Author of the Learning Rainforest and Rosenshine’s Principles in Practice and Teaching Walk Thrus, Tom will share views and information promoting the importance of evidence informed WISDOM through teaching strategies that enable pupils to learn effectively and think about curriculum. There will be plenty of opportunity to reflect and be challenged. Most importantly it will be useful and encourage habit forming in curriculum planning and will be a valuable couple of hours invested for your young people. Tom Sherrington, International Education Consultant has worked in school leadership and in an advisory capacity for many years.
