Production Training Scheme 2023/24

The Channel 4 Production Training Scheme is for entry level talent who are passionate about breaking into the television industry. In 2023/24 we will be offering 12 month paid placements in scripted television at one of the UK's independent production companies.

There are opportunities available across the UK – in Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool and London.

Applicants applying for this scheme may already have a degree in Film & Television, Theatre/Drama or have some previous experience of the television industry through running, work experience or short-term placements, but no more than 6 months.

The scheme aims to offer opportunities to those currently underrepresented in the TV industry, so we are particularly keen to hear from Deaf and/or disabled people, ethnically diverse people and people from lower socio-economic groups.

Established in 2015 by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, Bad Wolf has quickly grown to become one of the leading, multi-award-winning, high-end drama companies in the UK. Headquartered in Cardiff, with offices in London and Los Angeles, the company is now known for A Discovery of Witches (Sky); His Dark Materials (HBO/BBC), I Hate Suzie (Sky), Industry (HBO/BBC) and the latest output of the Doctor Who franchise, which will be on screens in 2023. Bad Wolf also runs Wolf Studios Wales and founded Screen Alliance Wales to deliver training and education workshops, which has engaged with 30,000 individuals to date.

Trainee Script Editor 

As a trainee script editor, you will provide editorial and research support to the script team. Your job will include some detailed administration work such as maintaining and circulating documents and taking accurate and detailed notes during meetings. You will also learn how to proof scripts and check for inaccuracies and any problems with continuity. We’ll teach you how to do things like ‘negative checks’, write synopses of episodes and to research to support storylines.
 
We are looking for candidates who:
  • Have a demonstrable interest in television drama, script reading, and storytelling which you may have gained from theatre groups, education or personal interests
  • Are confident in researching using both written sources and by consulting experts.
  • Are excellent communicators with a good command of written English.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and the ability to establish and maintain office and administration systems.  
  • Have some experience of handling confidential or sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.

Candidate essential skills:
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a conscientious attitude, keen to produce high-quality work.
  • Effective time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Able to work co-operatively within a team.
