This privacy policy sets out the basis on which we will process any personal data that we collect from you or that you provide to us when you use our website or any of the services provided through it or when you enter any competitions that we are responsible for. THE INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT FROM YOU

We will collect the information that you provide to us when you submit an entry into any competitions or promotional mailings that we are running either on our website or via any of our broadcast services including our radio or television channels or through any social media websites that we use to announce our competitions or promotions such as Facebook or Twitter. This information may vary depending on the type of competition but will often include your name, age, gender, home address, email address and telephone number. We will use this information to administer the competition or promotion you have entered including to contact you with a promotional product  or if you have won a prize. We may also need to share this information with any third parties who are providing any prizes or other products and services as part of the competition or promotion, but we will not share this information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  2. We will collect any information contained in any correspondence between you and us. For example, if you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence. We may also ask you for information when you report a problem with our website or any content or services made available through it.

DATA COLLECTED FROM MOBILE APPS

  1. i. Location data. We may collection location information (e.g. country), which may be used to determine access and availability of services and advertisements provided by this application.
  2. ii. Trackers. We use limited trackers for functional, analytical and advertising purposes to improve our apps and services.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

When you contribute to BFBS, we may use your contribution in our programmes which are broadcast or published in content on our website or BFBS social media pages. If we broadcast your contribution it may be used again in future broadcasts. We will only use the personal information that we collect from you in accordance with this privacy policy. We may use your information for the following purposes:
    1. to ensure that content from the website is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
    2. to send you general (non-marketing) commercial communications, such as information about the website and services provided to you by us at that time;
    3. to provide customer service in relation to your use of the website, to contact you, to deal with enquiries and complaints relating to the use of the website;
    4. to develop, improve and personalise the website so as to improve your user browsing experience; and

OUR COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE

  1. BFBS make every effort to comply with the requirements for the timely delivery of privacy information requests.  We will also respond to complaints about our process as fast as possible.
  2. Data subjects can complain to BFBS about: 
    1. how their personal data has been processed;
    2. how their request for access to data has been handled;
    3. how their complaint has been handled;
    4. appeal against any decision made following a complaint.
  3. Data subject(s) lodging a complaint with the Data Protection Officer (currently Finance Manager) can do so via email at gdpr@bfbs.com
  4. Complaints received are directed to the Data Protection Officer (currently Finance Manager) for resolution.  We aim to resolve complaints within 4 weeks.  Appeals on the handling of complaints are to be resolved within 3 months.

DISCLOSURE OF YOUR INFORMATION

  1. Other than as expressly set out in this privacy policy or as otherwise required or permitted by law, we will not share, sell or distribute any of the information you provide to us without your consent

    1. any third party to whom disclosure is necessary to enable us to provide you with any services or products that you have requested through the site including any of our competition prizes which may be provided by such third parties; and/or
    2. any person to whom disclosure is necessary to enable us to enforce our legal rights, or to protect the rights, property or safety of BFBS or our members or employees or the safety or security of any member of the UK’s armed forces or their family or supporters or where such disclosure may be required by law.
  3. You should note that the public elements of the website, such as the Forces Radio BFBS message board, will be visible to other users of the website anywhere in the world. You should therefore be careful when submitting information about yourself and only submit information that you are happy to be public information.

    2. One such example of the above is our partnership with Freestar, involving the showing of advertisements on our www.forces.net site. Forces.net is affiliated with Publisher First, Inc. dba Freestar ("Freestar") for the purposes of placing certain advertising on the Site, and Freestar will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. SECURITY AND DATA RETENTION

  1. We employ appropriate technological and operational security measures to protect against any unauthorised access to or any unlawful processing of any personal information about you that we hold. We will retain your information for a reasonable period or as long as the law requires or permits.
  2. Data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and although we employ appropriate technological and organisational security measures to protect your data we cannot guarantee the security of any data sent over the internet

INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

  1. Our servers are situated in the UK, however we collect data from wherever users are situated. The information that we collect will therefore be transferred to the UK from any other country in which you may be located and will be subject to UK data protection laws rather than the laws of the country in which you are resident.

However, we will charge a ‘reasonable fee’ when a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, particularly if it is repetitive. This also applies to additional copies of the same information. This period can be extended by a further two months where requests are complex or numerous. If this is the case, we will inform you within one month of the receipt of the request and explain why the extension is necessary.
