Completely Unique Experience
Follow multiple patients over a 6-month period, as they go from their initial injury to recovery. It is amazing how many different healthcare professionals are involved in a patient’s care. This incredible opportunity showcases a variety of professionals in one day. It gives students a chance to see them in action in various settings from the ward to the community. It is also a fantastic opportunity to see them work together in a multidisciplinary team.
During the work experience day, students will follow 2 patients from their initial presentation to recovery. Students will observe the healthcare professionals as they interact with the patients and and also each other. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and gain knowledge through teaching. This will help students to make an informed career decision as well as learn about how healthcare professionals work together as part of a multidisciplinary team. Each work experience day is completely different and students will be able to build on their knowledge of NHS careers as they see different patient cases and their healthcare professionals work in a variety of settings, such as hospital and community. For this reason we recommend that students attend one work experience a month for 6 months to not only gain a deeper knowledge of multidisciplinary teams in general but also their chosen careers.

5th May: Road Traffic Accident
This session we follow Tom after he is in a road traffic collision resulting in a critical leg injury, he is admitted to ITU where he is intubated. His lengthy recovery sees him going through rehabilitation needing to see SALT, physiotherapists, Orthotists and Occupational Therapist to help him get back on his feet.
Next we meet Jade who is 23 weeks pregnant with a previous history of pre-term labour she suffers from back ache and neck pain which she sees an Osteopath for treatment. She already has a cerclage in situ to prevent pre-term labour as she had a history in this pregnancy of a shortening cervix.

7th April: Communication & Fractures
We will be meeting Aizah who is now pregnant and has been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.
She has some mild Learning Difficulties and is a patient of Asian ethnicity with refugee status. With English as a second language it is causing some difficulties that can be rectified with support when it comes to speaking to understanding the medical advice she is given. She has no extended family here in the UK besides her husband.
Dominic suffered a leg injury while playing football, first responder Kate arrives on the scene to assess the situation and administer primary care. Further assessment confirms a fracture and Dominic will require physiotherapy to recover full mobility.

3rd March: Stroke & Therapy
First we will be meeting Jon as our Paramedic Katie answers a 999 call describing a patient who has possibly suffered a stroke. We follow Jon’s journey as he meets the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as they aid in his recovery and rehabilitation and put steps in place for long-term help.
Next we will be meeting Anya. After a car accident 2 years ago she became dependent on opioids to help manage her pain. Her GP is concerned about her mental heath and offers her options for therapy that might be helpful, particularly as she is pregnant.
You will see our allied healthcare professionals using different diagnostic tools and the skills needed to give the best care possible to their patients.
4th February: Geriatrics & Recovery
We will be meeting five different patients from Pat an elderly patient that takes a fall, Emma with concerns over her pregnancy, Helen who is recovering from a stroke, Mr Smith who needs a new prosthetic leg and Allen how is struggling with his mobility after an amputation.
With teaching on a range of patients and common medical conditions associated with these individuals, you will see our allied healthcare professionals using different diagnostic tools our team regularly employ and the skills our Allied Healthcare Team need to help make a difference and give the best care they possibly can to their patients.
7th January: Pain Management & Mental Health
First we will be seeing our patient Anita who suffered a crush fracture to her spine, and as a result is struggling with the pain our team will see if there is any other problems that have come about as a result of her injury and how they can help her manage her pain.
Next we will be meeting Yasmin who is suffering from an acute manic episode that is putting her at risk of harm, our mental health team will see how they can help Yasmin balance her mental health and a happy life.
With teaching on mental health, medical conditions, diagnostic tools our team use on a daily basis and the skills our Allied Healthcare Team need to help make a difference and give the best care they possibly can to their patients.
2nd June: Paediatric Pathway
We will be following our patient Samantha, from her birth, to her diagnosis of mild cerebral palsy at 2 and then to her early teens where our team work with her to help her keep her independence through treatments, medication and support equipment.
With teaching on paediatric medicine, medical conditions, diagnostic tools our team use on a daily basis and the skills our Allied Healthcare Team need to help make a difference and give the best care they possibly can to their patients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Each virtual work experience day starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm with breaks throughout. These are valuable opportunities to ask questions and interact with healthcare professionals. Students can select from 5 dates over a 5 month period (1 day each month) and will receive certificates for each day that they have completed. This is a valuable opportunity that can be used for university and apprenticeship applications.
Any student from any school across the UK, in years’ 10-12 or S3-S5, can apply. Places are limited and we will allocate them on a first-come-first-served basis. In order to secure a place, students must book online and register below. If the programme has reached maximum capacity for a specific date, online registration will close.
This work experience programme is specific for students interested in:
- Nursing
- Midwifery
- Paramedics
- Physiotherapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Radiographers
- Dietitians
- Pharmacists
- Prosthetists and orthotics
- Speech and language therapists
Each Live Work Experience event will showcase all of the careers above. Students will follow a series of patient case studies (as they would with in person work-experience), and learn about how each career has an impact on the patient as well as how they work together as part of a multidisciplinary team. This is important because it will help students to make an informed career decision and give them a more detailed insight into all of the allied healthcare professions over a 5 month programme.
We will not have an entire day focussing on just one profession, because it is important for students to have knowledge of healthcare careers in general to make an informed decision and strengthen their applications. For example, a student must be able to answer the question, ‘why do you want to be a nurse and not a speech and language therapist?’ at interview. However, over the course of 5 months, students will also build a substantial amount of insight into the profession of their choice.
You will be sent your individual login details on the the Wednesday and the Friday the week before the event, to the email that you initially purchased the event via.

If your joining link emails still cannot be found you can message us via the contact form or call us, we may simply need to update your email to make sure you receive all of the correspondence.
When you attend the event make sure you fill out the attendance form which will be available until midnight on the day of the event.
Certificates will then be issued from the Wednesday after the event.
If for any reason you have not been sent your certificate by the friday after the event please contact us and we will make sure you receive it in the following week.
