Advent Calendar - Tuesday of the Third Week: O Adonai

Advent Calendar - Tuesday of the Third Week: O Adonai

"O Adonai, the Leader of the house in the flame of the burning bush, and didst give unto him the law on Sinai: come and with an outstretched arm redeem us."

Today is the second day of the "O Antiphons". They are thus named because each antiphon begins with the letter "O" and evokes the reverence and wonder that surrounds the mystery of the coming of Christ - the fulfillment of all of the prophecies of the old testament.

At vespers, we hear each antiphon of the Magnificat as an antiphon of longing.  Each one then resounds with Veni! Come! This beckons our redeemer to come at last and be born. To come and redeem us of our sins and re-open the gates of heaven once more!

Veni! Let us unite our hearts with the liturgy and longing of Holy Mother Church for the Christ Child each day as we draw ever-nearer to the Nativity.
