Volunteers

Thank you to all our bed volunteers for your hard work leading up to and during planting week. As you tend your beds, we all hope for sunny, warm weather to make them look their best. Many volunteers made the Front Yard and Outdoor Spaces programs a huge success this year. Thank you. The Front Yard Finalists are to be decided July 18th and will be posted on the website shortly after.

Edible Planters

This is the second year our volunteers have planted and maintained edible planters in Broadmoor Lake Park in front of the playground for public consumption and enjoyment. This is in partnership with Strathcona County Transportation and Agriculture as part of their urban agriculture initiative. It was so successful last year; more planters have been added this year.

Survey Results

Thank you for the time you took to do the survey. Your response rate was fantastic!  Many took the time to fill out the comment section at the end. Your commitment to Strathcona in Bloom is exemplary. The executive will be doing our best to implement your suggestions.

Out and About in the Community

This year the Strathcona in Bloom has participated in the following community events:

  • Seedy Saturday – Strathcona in Bloom had a booth for the second year in a row at Seedy Saturday for Sherwood Park, held in March. We talked to other vendors who all had a connection to gardening, signed up new volunteers, shared information about our first annual Native Plant Sale, and made the front page of the Strathcona Bugle.

  • Arbor Day – Many of our executive volunteered for this fun day for all Grade 1’s in Strathcona County. We helped these excited future gardeners plant the tree that they took home with them. The weather was cold, windy and snowy but didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the children. Kudos to County staff for making it a great day for them.

  • Native Plant Sale – Our first annual Native Plant Sale was held June 1st in Broadmoor Lake Park Plaza in partnership with The Edmonton Native Plant Society who supplied the plants. This fundraiser was well attended, and we are already planning next year’s event.

  • Canada Day Parade – As part of our 20th Anniversary celebration, Strathcona in Bloom entered the Canada Day Parade. We had a gorgeous banner to carry, pulled wagons of potted flowers, distributed candy to spectators and missed most of the rain.
