The R&D Commercial Lead post is an exciting new management role in the NHS Lothian R&D team in the Academic and Clinical Central Office for Research and Development (ACCORD), located in the Queens Medical Research Institute at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

As the Commercial Lead for Lothian, you will work closely with the NHS Lothian NRS Generic Review Manager and will collaborate with staff from NHS Research Scotland (NRS) and the Chief Scientist Office (Scottish Government) to implement national research governance policy.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for maintaining oversight of the NHS Lothian commercial research portfolio, ensuring that generic/study-wide and local governance reviews are conducted in accordance with local procedures, UK standards, and to meet objectives set by the CSO.

You, and your team, will identify any patient welfare, corporate risk, and sponsorship or resource issues relating to the study protocols, ensuring that appropriate scientific review is undertaken and that studies are safe, practical, and that all commercial research projects are correctly costed to nationally acceptable standards.

You will be responsible for providing advice regarding all aspects of hosted commercial research to NHS research staff, senior university academics and commercial clients.

You will develop and implement an NHS Lothian R&D system for tracking, processing and approving amendments to commercial and non-commercial research projects, ensuring review and approval by the wider Research Governance team is complete in accordance with national requirements and timelines.

You will be educated to SCQF level 11 e.g., masters in a clinical or life sciences related subject or equivalent experience, have proven experience of working in a leadership/management role within a healthcare research setting and have highly developed working knowledge of regulatory frameworks and legislation governing the conduct of clinical research in the UK.    It is desirable that you will have working knowledge of the NIHR interactive costing tool (iCT) and Health Research Authority model agreements.
