The Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union organizes a conference on the European Labor Authority (ELA). The conference has two objectives: to promote ELA’s activities and achievements, and to evaluate the effectiveness of its missions.
The evaluation and promotion of ELA focus on the following four priorities:
- Improving access to information for individuals, employers and social partner organisations;
- Mediation and facilitation of information exchange between Member States;
- The coordination and support of concerted and joint inspections and tackling undeclared work;
- Coordinating EURES (European Employment Services designed to facilitate the free movement of workers).
Through this project, Belgium wishes to feed into the formal assessment of ELA which will be carried out by the European Commission by August 1, 2024.
The Belgian Presidency is also an opportunity to increase the visibility of Belgian priorities in the fight against cross-border social fraud and social dumping, to reinforce the role of ELA in this context, and to propose a trajectory for ELA in the future.
