Female Ex-Combatants and the next generation
Dialogues on lessons of fighting for justice
Through participatory research and training, this project fosters intergenerational dialogue between youth and former combatants on peacebuilding and justice in Mindanao, Philippines.
Timeframe: 2020 - 2021
This project continues our efforts to document the rarely heard voices of female ex-combatants and simultaneously aims to strengthen the peacebuilding capacities of youth in Mindanao through intergenerational exchange and mutual learning. Young Filipinos will engage in dialogues with female ex-combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as well as the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) about their perspectives on the national peace process, violent extremism and options for non-violent social and political engagement. The dialogues will be prepared by training and research led by the participants themselves with the aim to capture their experience through storytelling and a video series.
Based on Berghof’s previous engagement in documenting lessons learnt and personal stories in its project From Female Combatants to Post-War Democratic Leaders, this project will be realised in close collaboration with its trusted partner organisation The Moro Women Development and Cultural Centre (MWDECC) and supported by its trusted partner in the previous project, Kadtabanga Foundation (Mindanao, Philippines).
