While I enjoyed the Twisted the universe of Cole, Elle and Horse, I loved the story of Filly and Brye! Loved it! Filly starts out as a sweet, innocent 21yo that has seen the world through her artistic parents eyes but has never been told about their darkness. Brye has been raised in darkness and tries to escape it through art. They have a connection even before they know who they are to each other- mortal enemies. When Brye’s Father finds out he kidnaps her and holds her prisoner while Brye does everything in his power to keep her alive and unharmed.
While there is still savagery and death in this book is is also a lot more light and understanding as Filly helps Brye find his heart again. I really enjoyed this book.

I love a well written, dark romance that captivates me while reading it. Twisted Secrets did exactly that. Mix that in with a modern day Romeo and Juliet type romance and my heart is happy. I loved the characters in this book, Brye and Filly’s chemistry is explosive I loved how action packed and suspenseful this book is, I didn’t know what to expect but Ace topped it.

As innocent children, we all seem to want and maybe even need the fairy tale and its happily ever after, hiding behind rose colored glasses and believing that good always prevails thwarting any attempt for the villain to win.

But the real world is not a fairy tale…it’s not a place with only beautiful and angelic beings because perfection is impossible and the contradictory actions and feelings of love and hate, beauty and ugliness, and healing and destruction are the true reality of the world regardless of how sheltered and shielded parents try to keep their children, especially when they know firsthand what malice, mayhem, and savagery exists in the world because they were a part of it in the past.

Wow! Ace Gray DOES NOT take it easy on her readers, but I would expect nothing less from a story where monsters are out in the open and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep their depraved selves in full view of the chaos they create, and while it’s difficult to witness what Filly must go through due to her curiosity and her pull towards Brye, a man she knows nothing about, the woman who Filly becomes because of her experiences at the hands of the McCowans is one who now understands life’s paradoxical contrasts and that enlightenment allows her to survive…allows her to understand and even forgive her parents’ past and a future that may be nothing like she thought it would be but it’s one she chooses nonetheless.

I adore dark romances, especially ones that twist in unexpected ways and Ace Gray’s Twisted Secrets is that kind of story. Gray constructs a duplicitous and deadly world with dynamic characters who change and grow as truths are uncovered and they find ways to face life’s ugliness even when they want to give up.

Do horror stories have happy endings? I can’t really say because one person’s happiness is another person’s nightmare. But what I do know is that Brye and Filly’s story ends in the only way it can, providing them a choice - one that will determine just how far they’re willing to go for themselves and each other.

The first thing I have to say is...if you have any triggers, are sensitive or just do not appreciate the dark romance world then this book is definitely not for you!
Secondly, 5 stars is not enough!!!
Ace Gray has absolutely smashed this book. It is part of a series and you should definitely read the others first to fully understand the story. Also, why wouldn't you want to read them all, they are awesome.
Even though we have lived on the Twisted world before, this time it was so different. Brye is so different from Cole and Horse and in so much of a darker world than they ever could have been. It was hard at times to see what he and Filly were going through but it made the story all the more beautiful to me.
Filly was so different than what I was expecting, she was all sunshine and flowers but craved the darkness that she didn't even know was in her life. The way she sees people and the world has completely changed how I now view these things. An artists perspective is a great perspective to view the world from. It was also a very unique experience to view the book from an artists perspective, it gave the book so much more.
Don't be deceived by what I have said though, this world was dark and gritty with pieces of beautiful sprinkled in. Reading this story was intense, soul-wrenching and had my heart bleeding right from the start. The emotions were overwhelming at times but I wouldn't change that for the world, even when I had said emotions leaking out of my eyeballs. I don't think that there are really enough words to describe how much I really loved this book.

Ace Gray delivers again. Having read this whole series, I was excited we get the pleasure of seeing Filly grown up.

She, and how she gets through her story, is the ultimate compliment to her parents and uncles. She's truly the best of all 4 of her authority figures.

Her mom's ability to see past the surface of the person and see their souls, even when it's contradictory to what can be seen.

Her father's nature of devotion to those he loves and strong moral compass even in dark situations.

Her uncle Horse's ability to love fully and wholly.

Her uncle Conrad's ability to see light in areas where there may be none.

Kudos on another amazing book.

Holy crazy darkness!!! This was the darkest romance I have read.... And I freaking LOVED IT!!! It's another Romeo and Juliet telling with some twists. Despite his absolutely evil actions, I still felt myself rooting for Brye! The supporting characters in this book were awesome! Some kind of redeemed themselves and others did not. Filly and Brye totally stole my heart! The things they did for each other. The way they love each other and don't want to admit it. Their story left me breathless during many points in the book. So worth of more than 5 stars but that's all it allowed me to give!
