IMO Kayley Loring is the gold standard in romance writers. She's really funny, but more than that, she paints pictures that make simple little love stories come to life. Her descriptions make you experience, not just read about what is happening, her characters are well understood but not just through words, the chemistry is undeniable, and any angst or conflict is short lived so that you don't feel tortured. Ms. Loring's subtle skill is so effective that it's not what you notice, you just embrace the story.

I avoided this book for a while because of the cover. DON'T DO THAT! It turned out to be one of my favorite romances ever! I didn't want to read about any bad boys right now, but Chase isn't a bad boy at all. He just likes his look—it's a little edgy—but he's really the perfect book boyfriend.

If you've suffered any 'romance story trauma' lately and need a nice light little read, this is the one for you. It's the sweet love story of a nice, smart, professional couple who find instalove and just want to be together. Barring a few minor obstacles they do get together, and it's yummy. There's very little angst or conflict, no love/hate, no push/pull or sardonic banter, they have no baggage, their parents are all alive and loving and supportive, and their careers are on track. Wow, that's a rarity in romance novels, isn't it?

What I really can't say enough about is the first 40% of the book. OMG, it is everything that we read romance stories for. I don't want to spoil even a speck of it for you, you just have to experience it for yourself. So well written and wonderful that you feel every bit of it in your heart and soul.

No spoilers here, but there's an alluring little scene that I just have to tell you about—Chase's advice to Aimee about savoring the flavor of Irish whiskey. An obvious metaphor for life, but Ms. Loring does it in such a visceral way. Chase says to Aimee, "Take a sip and close your eyes," and then she gets it. The description is so sensuous and seductive—her 'gorgeous eyes', the 'glass touching her lips', "I watch her respond to every smooth and warm, surprising flavor as it caresses her tongue—the fruity honeyed sweetness, the sherry and licorice and ginger, the peppery spice that erupts in her throat as she swallows, the hint of toffee that lingers... The union and explosion of unexpected soulmate flavors that can change the way you experience the world. It's like drinking music."
Who knew there was so much in Irish whiskey? And it makes me want to taste a good Redbreast Irish whiskey too. If I ever do that I will think of this scene for sure.

One of the best secondary characters in this story is Elaine Hoffman, Aimee's boss. She comes out with the funniest stuff that starts off as what you think will be sage insight from a middle aged woman who has lived a lot. But it always takes a surprising twist at the end that makes you do a double take and laugh. She's priceless. A brilliant creation by Ms. Loring.

So for sure give this book a try. I loved it and would definitely read it again. This is my fifth book by Ms. Loring, and I read them on KU, but I have gone back four out of five times to buy her books because I like them so much. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you like satisfying romance.

I enjoyed this book. Chase was so nice he was thinking about his best friend and his company. He was a patient man hoping he would have a chance with the woman he met for the first time. Aimee was a little goofy in the beginning and just being herself. Aimee was thinking about Chase just as he had been thinking about her. I loved them as a couple and trying to work together was hard. Roxy was too funny and a good best friend. Chase's parents and Aimee's parents were nice. Chase's best friend was a spoiled brat that needed to grow up.

I liked the premise of this book, in which Chase, the lead hottie, met Aimee, the woman of his dreams, in a bar, but then stepped aside to give his friend a chance. I didn't much like Keaton in this story, but will be interested to read about him again in The Plus Ones.
