The Recap and all the details of Creative Escape - Spring 2017!

If you missed it, here are all the details for our first ever Creative Escape day last month!  First off, I meant to take more pictures, especially once everyone arrived.  However, once we got started, we were having so much fun and I was so consumed with my projects that I totally forgot!  We also planned to Facebook Live, but again, time flew by and we forgot!  It was so much fun!  So much fun that we have the date set for the next one.

The Location

Our location was a local church multi-purpose room!  I loved it there!  It was only our group in the entire building and they had a ton of tables!  If you are a stamper, scrapbooker, or crafter...you know table space is so valuable!  We had so many tables available, so everyone had plenty of room and more!  The room was huge, but also felt cozy!  We had a full kitchen too, so it made it easy to take food (more of food below!)

The Morning and Set Up

We had a project area where we set up the projects we took for everyone to complete.  It was lots of projects:

  • 3 - 2 page 12x12 layouts (so 6 full 12x12 pages total!)
  • 2 gift card holders
  • 2 cards
  • 1 gift box

Everyone was welcome to come and go to the group project area as they wished.  So some worked on their own projects first and then did a couple projects or vise versa.  It was basically- work at your own pace.

Everyone had their own half-table.  Their area was set up with some goodies and a stamp set to keep (shown above).  Here is a close up of their gifts:

Water bottle with a snapple packet.

A chocolate goodie bag, because who doesn't love chocolate!

...and a name card!

Alisha and I also took our big shots and lots of framelits and embossing folders for everyone to use.

The Projects!
The idea for the event was for everyone to bring a project to work on.  Some brought scrapbooks, some brought materials to make paper cakes, one person was making Christmas decorations, Alisha was making cards.  However, no event is complete without make and takes.  So here are the make and takes we provided!  I think they were a hit!  Alisha and I split the task and each prepped a few.

My projects and work space!

Alisha and I shared a table.  If you don't know Alisha, she is one of my downline members, my partner in crime, and a great friend!  However, Alisha and I should not share a table!  She and I have way to much stuff and need lots of space!  Can you guess what side of the table is mine?!  She wasn't completely set up, but still.  Since we had a ton of tables, we both added mini tables to our sides to give us extra space!

I worked on our family 2013 scrapbook and got about half way done. I was happy with that.  Part of my time was spent sorting pictures into categories.  Next time I will sort at home to save time.

The Food!

Part of the event fee included food.  Alisha made banana choclate muffins for the morning.  I didn't get a picture of those, but they were delicious!  I ate a couple!  For lunch we had a pasta bake, salad, and french bread.  For dessert, Alisha made cheesecake cups.  They were so good!

Summary!
It was so much fun we can't wait to do it again!  We set the date while we were there because we were having so much fun and so were our guests!  The Fall Creative Escape will be holiday themed!  Save the date- September 16th!

Joy in Simple Scrapbooking

I first fell in love with paper crafts with Scrapbooking.  I truly enjoyed spending hours on a layout and enjoying the creative process.  Fast forward 15 years, I have 3 kids, a husband, a business, a job and other daily tasks.  My days of spending hours on one single layout are over!

Here is my reality.  I love taking photos and putting them in pretty pages.  I mean look at this cute photo!  It needs a pretty page, right?!

My girls love to look at their scrapbooks and feel the love I put into them, even my littlest one. Seriously, she never sits still....but she will if she is looking at these scrapbooks!

I want to preserve beautiful photos like one of my favorites here, but in a fraction of the time.  So, I have made it my mission to Scrapbook more.  In my local Stamp Club, I have incorporated a monthly layout into our projects.  The girls love it, and it gives me an excuse to scrapbook!  Here are a couple of layouts we have done this year:

Depending on your scrapbooking skill or interest level, you may or may not think these are simple.  For me the Sunshine Layout is a little simpler in the sense that I followed my own layout formula: Title + Border (designer series paper strips) + Matching Cardstock mattes + A few stamps!  I try not too spend too much time and just these key elements in most of my pages.  Oh, plus a place to journal too!

Like these projects?!  Some of the products I used are listed below.  I always use only Stampin' Up! products, which you can buy at my store HERE.  Or here are two other ways you can make these pages:

  • Register by 3/18 to  Creative Escape day and pick a layout above to make.  What's Creative Escape? We have rented a church gym in Sacramento/Elk Grove area to have an all day Crafting Day on 4/22.  Ask me for details! It's a chance to come, relax, work on projects ( a few make and takes we provide and bring your own!).   If you are in my club, I will take you a surprise layout, you haven't done!  Register yourself and a friend and you can make both layouts.  This offer is good for the first 8 people who register (while supplies last).
  • Sign up for my club!  We make a 2 page layout each month!  You will make similar pages each month.
So, I realize that traditional scrapbooking is not for everyone!  Stay tuned next week for more ways to preserve your photos, still cute, but faster and easier!

Dressing up a baked treat box with designer series paper

Dress up a baked goods box with one sheet of paper!

Tomorrow is Teacher Appreciation Week.  I like to do a little something homemade or edible, to go along with a more practical gift....gift cards.  It's my way of doing a good balance between something thoughtful and something everyone likes (to pick their own gift!).

At my last Stamp Club, our hostess brought a coffee cake from Ettore's (Lemon Poppyseed and Blueberry).  It was AMAZING!  She bought it at the local Nugget.  So I decided to go and get something similar to add to our teacher gifts.   Now while I think the yummy treats are great, I wanted to dress up the box to make it a little cuter.  So I took a piece of designer series paper that matched the cards and notebooks we had done and did a little measuring.  It was pretty simple and fast to get a lid together.

Here is what I did.
  • I measured my box and added 2 inches to all sides to see how much paper I needed.
  • So my 7x7 box needed a 11x11 sheet of paper.
  • Then I scored all sides by 1 7/8''.  Scoring by a little less than the 2'' gave me a little wiggle room to make sure the box lid slid on and off easily.
  • Then I folded all side and cut like the picture below.
  • Add a little glue and your done!

Give it a try!  Feel free to ask me if you need more clarification.
