WASHINGTON - The best way to protect against the coronavirus is to understand it is like the virus that causes the highly contagious common cold, said Ms Laurie Garrett, a Pulitzer-winning science writer who has written books on pandemics.

"About half of all common colds are coronaviruses, so they're in the same family with this very dangerous virus," she said.
