Happy New Year and welcome to the January 2021 edition of the Notts Help Yourself Provider e-bulletin. The bulletins will let you know about new developments on the Notts Help Yourself website and useful information for providers. COVID vaccination appointments will soon be available to NCC commissioned domiciliary care providers and personal assistants who are employed by a direct payment recipient or self-employed. We are working with health colleagues to arrange vaccinations and hope that booking slots will be available from 18th January or soon after that date. We wanted to give you advance notice to enable you to identify relevant staff so we can move quickly as booking slots become available and ensure as many spaces as possible can be filled.
Our Customer Service Centre will take bookings on behalf of your staff and we will be in contact with you soon about how this process will work. Bookings will take approximately 5 minutes and staff will need to provide their name, DOB, email address and postcode. Mobile numbers and NHS numbers are optional. Staff will need to attend the same location for both vaccination doses.

This is a reminder that people who perform one of the Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGPs) outlined in the Government Guidance must be fit tested for a FFP3 mask. A FFP3 mask is a type of respiratory mask. The fit test ensures that the FFP3 mask creates a secure seal around the wearer's face to protect them and the cared for person against any harmful airborne particles being inhaled. Providers have a responsibility to ensure they have fit tested their staff who supply care to people who fit the criteria.

Please note that all eye protection issued by Nottinghamshire County Council as PPE, should be treated as disposable only within a health and social care setting. This means that eye protection can be used continuously, until you need to take a break from duties or move between settings, and should be disposed of after removal.

Nottinghamshire County Council is seeking a service provider to manage and develop our new “Tackling Digital Exclusion” scheme. The service is for adults who have long term social care needs, . The Provider will be required to deliver Council supplied tablet computers and data sims to vulnerable adults; provide support to set up the device to meet individual needs, and instruct the person how to use the equipment over a number of support sessions to support a variety of service users throughout Nottinghamshire .
We are looking for a service provider to support a wide range of vulnerable adults, so that individuals can gain the confidence and skills to use an Android digital device to help them achieve their assessed health and social care outcomes.
As the Covid19 pandemic continues, the Council views this scheme as a primary way to keep our most vulnerable residents digitally connected to both formal and informal networks.
Care4Notts are launching on the 29th January 2021.

A local study is being carried out to explore whether children prefer certain types of foods and whether this can be linked to sweet food preference.
If you are supporting any parents of children aged 4-11 years old, please let them know of the research.
This study consists of supervising children to answer an online questionnaire.

The Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity is launching its schools programme, Curiosity Projects, for the next festival in February 2021. The project has been designed to be adaptable to all schools, including primaries, secondaries, FE colleges, alternative provision, special schools and home educated pupils across Nottinghamshire, as well as with current restrictions in mind. In Curiosity Projects, pupils will develop their own science research project that investigates the topics and questions that they're curious about. Pupils will be connected (virtually) with specialist university researchers to help them explore that question and do their own experiments and investigations.
The festival will support teachers with resources to deliver this project and all schools participating will be invited to showcase their projects at the Real Science in Schools Symposium (either in person or virtually) during the Festival week in February. We will also be supporting schools that are interested in having their pupils complete CREST awards as part of this project by covering costs for awards (www.crestawards.org).

A new resource for parents and carers has been set up within the Parent/Carer Zone on the Notts Help Yourself website to present information to support parents and carers at different stages of a child’s development. Split into different ages this information covers a variety of topics from pregnancy to preparing for school and includes simple and low cost activities parents and carers can do at home to help with their child’s development. Children’s Centre workers are continuing to grow these resources so that new activities will be added to the website on a regular basis.

A reminder to please keep your childcare service information updated on Notts Help Yourself. The Families Information Service receives notification from Ofsted and Childminder Agencies about all registered childcare providers and a page is set up for each provider on the Notts Help Yourself website.

Make a difference – become a Personal Assistant
Do you know anyone who is keen to help make a difference to the life of others? If so they may want to consider becoming a Personal assistant (PA). The role has flexible working hours and can include tasks such as cleaning, shopping, leisure activities, support with personal care and other tasks to help them live independently in their own home.
If you know anyone who is interested, they can access more information or apply to join the Council’s Support with Confidence PA accreditation scheme.
