Career in academia

From 1996 until 2013, Farrar was Director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2004, he and his Vietnamese colleague Tran Tinh Hien identified the re-emergence of the deadly bird flu, or H5N1, in humans.He was Professor of Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oxford from 2000 until 2013.[1]

What is the best stategies to deal with governmental policy makers (at all different levels from the Prime Minister, Ministers of Health, Economy, Trade, Tranport/Travel and Education, etc..), when they put their own insterests above the population's health?

What are your opinions on the critics of the "over-reliance" on evidence/data in the UK? Having trained in the UK so I understand where the policy coming from after public cases like Thalidomide and Harold Shipman, but in time of crisis, a lot of things could had been better if the government had enforced masks or lockdown sooner.
