EU Teens 4 Green: winners of the call will promote youth participation in just transition

In November 2021, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) launched a call for proposals in order to select a beneficiary in charge to organise and manage a call for projects dedicated to teens, between 15 and 24 years old and resident in territories eligible for the Just Transition Fund.

Today, DG REGIO announces the winning proposal: “EUTeens4Green – A new generation of youth ambassadors for an inclusive green transition” by the consortium composed by Startup Europe Regions Network; Youth and Environment Europe, CEE Bankwatch Network with the support Generation Climate Europe. Their proposal has a budget of almost EUR 1 million.

Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: “Cohesion Policy is the largest EU investment policy for regions in the Union. It is a policy for citizens, but also with citizens. Young people can help to design investments closer to their need and take an active involvement in the green shift. The initiative EU Teens 4 Green offers the opportunity to young people to shape projects for a more inclusive transition.”

The consortium will be responsible to organise a call for projects open to teenagers resident in one or more territories eligible for the Just Transition Fund (see list of eligible territories). Projects by teens will aim to increase participation and involvement of people, who are less exposed to the benefits from green transition. It targets persons with limited awareness and understanding of the impact of “green transition” on their professional and private life and who, at the same time, have limited resources or opportunities to participate in the definition of actions for sustainable transition.

Through the call for projects, at least 70 projects by teenagers will be funded. Each project will receive a contribution up to EUR 10.000. The implementation period will last up to 12 months.

EUTeens4Green is one of the four flag initiatives that DG REGIO prepared in the context of the European Year of Youth.

EUTeens4Green call for proposals

EUTeens4Green is already looking for researchers, teachers, experts in just transition and representatives of youth associations to join its Think Tank.

Applicants will advise on how to make the green transition work for young people.

There is time until the 15 of July to make a difference.
