OpenActive is a community led initiative funded by Sport England to make it easier to find and book activities across the UK. OpenActive uses open data; an innovative new way for activity providers to more easily share their up to date activity information with national and regional campaigns, without masses of duplicate work and data entry.
Operators such as GLL, Everyone Active, and Parkwood are already publishing open data and NGBs such as Badminton England and England Netball are doing it too. Their activities are appearing on some exciting campaigns, here are some of the biggest open data powered campaigns running at the moment:
- Every Body Moves - run by the British Paralympic Association and sponsored by Toyota, this is the UK’s largest inclusive activity finder receiving over 600,000 page views a year.
- Classfinder is the largest directory of group exercise classes in the UK. They have 40,000+ classes, previously gaining 2m page views a year.
- This Girl Can Classes - a continuation of the hugely successful This Girl Can campaign, the classes are operated by EMD UK and funded by Sport England and The National Lottery.

If you don't use an OpenActive enabled system, or don't use a booking system at all, you can upload your events directly onto Open Sessions (www.opensessions.io) and they can then populate on several open data powered platforms.
