Following the success of last year's 'Skip into Summer' project, which saw over 35,000 children taking part, we are delighted to be back to do it all again this year!
The project will once again be presented by Skipping School, working in partnership with Yorkshire Sport Foundation who are funding the project as part of the West Yorkshire School Games. Therefore, all resources are being provided FREE OF CHARGE to schools.
'Skip into Summer' will take place during the half term following the Easter holidays, which gives several weeks of very positive activity for children, young people and adults across West Yorkshire.
Schools will receive a series of skipping tutorial videos for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children, so that everyone can join in the fun.
The EYFS & KS1 resources will support with getting younger children started on their skipping journey, with a particular focus on fundamental movement skills.
The KS2 resources will focus on agility, balance, coordination skills and teamwork, with the inclusion of 10 individual skipping skills and 2 long rope games.
For all age groups we will include differentiation within the tutorial videos, to allow for the differing ability levels, with the basics for beginners and more challenging ideas for those who are ready.
The aim is to inspire and engage your children to get active and have fun, and to create sustainable activity levels and boost self-esteem, confidence and overall wellbeing.
Skipping positively impacts on fundamental movement skills, agility, balance, coordination, fitness levels, playground activity, teamwork, communication skills, and much much more.
For those of you who took part last year, we would love you to join in again and build upon the skills you learnt before. For those of you joining us for the first time, we look forward to working with you to create an enjoyable experience for both you and the children in your school.
This year the project will have a new and improved format to create more flexibility, and we will also be hosting a 'Skip into Summer Celebration Event' at Bradford Grammar School on Friday 15th July (more information about how to register your school for this event will be announced).
If you don't have any ropes in school or need to add to current equipment, there is a chance to purchase sets of high quality skipping ropes within the registration form (a perfect use of your Primary Sports Premium funding).
