In 2023 we launched ‘Gear Up’ a new social enterprise dedicated to empowering communities through cycling, walking, and wheeling.

Due to successfully securing new funding from Smarter Choices Smarter Places, and the Coalburn, Douglas & Glespin Community Fund, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and energetic Gear Up Community & Team Lead who can drive the growth of this exciting enterprise.

You’ll lead on the development of our bike hire scheme and community hubs, manage the small staff and volunteer team, and drive the development of partnerships and commercial opportunities.

This role is subject to a PVG Disclosure Scotland check, which will be paid by Healthy Valleys.

Due to the requirement to travel around rural communities, the postholder must have a full, clean driving licence, access to their own transport (with appropriate business insurance) and be prepared to drive the Healthy Valleys van.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of the Strategic Partnerships team, working in partnership with one of five local councils to facilitate a strategic approach to active travel infrastructure development and delivery in the council area, as well as providing support with active travel policies and proposals for the council's planning and pipeline projects.

As Senior Project Officer, your time will be split between working on council projects and Sustrans specific tasks related to the Strategic Partnerships Team objectives.

We have 5 positions working with one of the following councils:

West Dunbartonshire Council

West Lothian Council

East Ayrshire

Aberdeen City Council

Clackmannanshire Council

Each council will have a different approach to active travel, and you will be working across services within the council structure.

This role will involve regular travel most weeks. The focus of this role are the above Council areas; we may occasionally need you travel further during the course of your work including occasional visits to Sustrans Offices and overnights stays.

About you

You should have experience in (at least) one of the following: transport planning, land use planning, urban design, traffic engineering, sustainable transport project delivery. You will also be experienced in working with partners across various teams, and able to build strong working relationships.

You should have the ability to work independently and be able to make decisions with minimal supervision, as well as have excellent report writing skills.

We ask you demonstrate knowledge of the funding context for active travel in Scotland.

We are looking for a Community Activities Organiser to provide maternity leave cover for the Brain Health and Dementia Resource Centre in Helensburgh. You will facilitate a range of community activities and opportunities that fill identified gaps and meet the needs of people living with dementia and their families.

The successful applicant will have a positive approach to dementia. You will be flexible, inclusive, creative, and organised in your approach. You will be sensitive and compassionate with the ability to support people in times of difficulty or distress. You will be an excellent communicator who can work effectively both with individuals and with groups. You will have a positive approach to your own continued professional development and a willingness to participate in relevant training. A relevant qualification and previous experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

Due to successfully securing new funding from Smarter Choices Smarter Places, we have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and passionate Gear Up Mechanic who will support the maintenance of our bike and eBike fleet, as well as engage our communities with Active Travel and support them to develop their own skills in this field.

You’ll assess, service, repair, and maintain all types of bikes and eBikes, help train others in bike maintenance, and support the development of events and partnerships.
