We welcome texts from anyone experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence, their friends and family, colleagues or practitioners seeking professional advice.

When using the text service with the Live Fear Free helpline please remember to do this when safe to do so, and to delete messages that could be found by others (your abusive partner/family members included).

Text messages will be charged at your standard network rate.

What happens when you text

Once a text message is received an automated message will be generated notifying you that, during busy times, it can take up to 4 hours for a response to be sent. This response may be anytime within the day as the Helpline is operational 24 hours/7 days a week.

Once a conversation has begun you'll receive responses by highly trained, professional support workers. If at all possible, we'll try and ensure that you're communicating with the same person for the duration of the contact. This may, however, not always be possible dependant on the duration of the communication.

You will be listened to, believed and offered help and support. You will not be judged or blamed and you don't have to take any further action if you don't feel ready to.

This is a safe and confidential space for you to talk, however, there may be instances when we may need to breach confidentiality. These are in circumstances when we feel there may be a significant danger to children or yourself and referrals would be made to the most appropriate agencies.

If you are in immediate danger please contact the police on 999 or 101.
