I-Tech and RISE were honoured to host this two day-conference by the old Eriksberg shipyard area in Gothenburg, Sweden. 

The International Antifouling Conference 2022 provided a platform for industry and academia to come together to discuss marine biofouling and future antifouling solutions. Experts in the field explored the latest advances in antifouling solutions and discussed the growing global biofouling challenge.

Visit to the Kristineberg Center for Marine Research and Innovation. 

September 15, 2022

On September 15, conference delegates took a day trip to the Kristineberg Center for Marine Research and Innovation. In addition to a guided tour around laboratories and infrastructure, ongoing antifouling projects were displayed and guests discussed future projects. 

The visit was included in the price of the conference ticket.

M. Sc. Naval Architect and Project Manager at Stena Teknik since 12 years. As the unit provide advanced technical support for Stena Bulk, Stena Line and Stena Drilling Lisa has been involved in newbuilding projects and repairs as well as research studies of latest technologies. Today her focus is on IMO environmental indexes EEXI and CII and reducing the Stena fleet carbon footprint.

KEYNOTE - Dr. Raouf Kattan

Raouf has established a reputation as one of the world's leading consultants and innovators in the engineering of coating systems for marine structures. His career, over 40 years and 30 countries, has been spent in the marine industry working with most of the world's leading shipyards, ship and offshore asset owners, chemical and coatings manufacturers, mega-yacht builders and owners, research and development organisations as well as classification societies, the insurance markets and both the UK and US navies.

In 1998, he started the specialist consultancy Safinah Ltd, recognised as a world leader in the provision of in depth analytical, diagnostic and strategic technical and expert witness services to the marine and heavy-duty coatings market globally. Today he is semi retired and acts as Principal Consultant/Adviser at Safinah Group.

Fouling release coatings with evolving surface chemistry

KEYNOTE - Dr. Christine Bressy

Through her collaborations, Dr. Bressy has secured access to analytical facilities, set-ups to conduct the ageing and monitoring of the release rate of biocides from marine coatings. She had a keen interest in demonstrating the mechanisms of action of marine AF/fouling release strategies using surface and bulk analyses, bioassays and field tests. From 2017 until now, she has been involved in new projects focused on the biofouling management in MRE and microalgal photobioreactors applications.

Sustainable marine coatings – an industry perspective

KEYNOTE - Stefan Møller Olsen

Stefan Møller Olsen has a M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the University of Copenhagen and a Ph.D. in chemical product design from the Technical University of Denmark. He joined Hempel in 2005 as a Industrial PhD student and has thus spent his entire career in the research and development side of marine coatings.

Stefan is an author of several peer-reviewed papers ranging from microbiology, over applied enzyme technology and characterisation and test methods, of course all linked to the field of marine coatings; He is also the inventor behind a number of patent applications within this field.
