On May 12, 2020 the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC) hosted a Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean. The virtual event addressed transnational and regional legal challenges in cyberspace, emphasizing the value of multistakeholder cooperation to develop interoperable standards and solutions.

Key outcomes included:
- Official Latin America and the Caribbean regional launch of the world’s first Internet & Jurisdiction Global Status Report 2019 that maps key trends and actors of the ecosystem.
- Multistakeholder exchange on Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Status Report, that will be released by the end of 2020. Regional trends highlighted by participants surrounded: e-commerce, data privacy and access to e-evidence.
- Dialogue on Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network Program outcomes including: how public and private decision-makers can determine the geographic scope of content restrictions, options to address abuse at the DNS level and potential regimes for cross-border access to electronic evidence.
- Regional consultation on the future of the UN Digital Cooperation Architecture (Recommendation 5) in the context of the United Nations Secretary General High Level Panel Report on Digital Cooperation and in cooperation with the Government of Germany in its role as UN champion.
The Regional Conference was held within the framework of the preparatory activities for the eLAC 2020 Ministerial Conference and served to generate substantive inputs for the discussion of the new Regional Digital Agenda. Established in 1948, the eLAC process engages 46 Member States.
This cooperation between the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network and United Nations ECLAC is part of a joint 5 years Memorandum of Understanding signed between both organizations in 2019.
