In November 2021, artist Jonathan Freemantle undertook his most arduous challenge to date. He carried three stone sculptures, their plinths, three paintings and a mobile studio, on his back up to the remote ‘Bone Caves’ in the far north of Scotland. He set up a studio and completed the paintings in the cave, camping overnight. He was accompanied by a small film crew and his two sons.

The first iteration of the exhibition took place in the cave, on Friday 12th November 2021 the morning after his ascent. This exhibition presents the completed artworks, accompained by the film documenting his experience. An exhibition presented by Rafiki Gallery in the Ltd Ink Corporation Edinburgh Space.

2nd July 2021

We are excited to announce our first solo exhibition of the year, ‘Space is a Feeling’ featuring all new works by artist Thomas Whittle. Whittle’s work attempts to navigate the duality of definition, ambiguity of usefulness and diluted purpose of the quiet and unassuming two-dimensional image. The work investigates time within production as well as time suggested by materials and methods.

"These new paintings are filled with oval shapes, circular rhythm. Sighting resembles the epic exploding of Boulder Reign the house and the contents at the end of Zabriskie Point. Whispering is even better! Intoxicating, vaporous, smoking. Cooling is a delicious confection - Thiebaud added to Hodgkin. Resting is more sombre. Is that a mattress? It is called Resting or an over-turned headstone? At rest. A garland with two skulls?
Stacking is loaded up with ovals – balloons or traffic lights? Stacking feels like things are getting ready to speed up again... Streaming is a torrent of blue oil paint resembling water everything feels active. Rapid, teeming.
Wafting is the artist on fire. Playing with Fire.

Playing with the indiscipline of painting while appreciating the discipline of painting between careful and carefree tradition and experimentation virtuosity and playfulness.”

Curator Graham Domke, 2021.

“Death is like love. When you are in love, every song that comes on the radio seems to speak directly to you. Screaming about falling in love, losing love and falling back into it against all the odds...

In a world drowning in the noise of content, it feels like the right time to turn the volume back up on death.
Making it present again so we can remember, ignorance isn’t always bliss.”

DUMB POET is the latest exhibition in our 2019 calendar by Jack Brindley. Jack will be presenting an installation of new work, comprised of large scale paintings, wall relief photographic works and pseudo-furniture sculptures.  Brindleys’ current practice explores the dissolution of the rational mind and our often problematic relationship to the void: Pure white Paintings that push our perceptions, sculptures as pavilions, provisional spaces that try and hold onto an immaterial future, temporary sites of autonomy, mirrors and text artwork emerging from mist, like visions through a post-industrialist haze.

Nice To Meet You / Haven’t We Met Before? is a 2-part group exhibition that is planned to take place on two separate occasions, at two different exhibition spaces, over two separate periods of time. Taking place between Ltd Ink Corporation, Edinburgh, and A-M-G5, Glasgow, the exhibitions aim to open up a dialogue surrounding the effects that alternative environmental conditions have on the reading of an artwork, and how alternative installations can equally compliment, influence and transform a collective grouping of works.

The 2-part exhibition aims to open a collective dialogue and simultaneously unify the communities of Edinburgh and Glasgow by inviting viewers to attend both installments of the exhibition. Hopeful that attendees will take the time to visit both iterations, we aim to invigorate an audience who will continue visiting and experiencing exhibitions in both cities and venues

Ltd Ink Corporation presents The Pentland Experiment by Norman Harman.  The Pentland Experiment explores the discordant interference between paint and digital process.  This ongoing work creates an alternative reality that sits on the outskirts of Edinburgh.  Converging the digital and tactile, Harman depicts a dystopian future.  Faces and structures are deliberately blurred from the viewer in these highly staged compositions which utilise Harman’s vast collection of photography, found imagery and TV stills.  Within the corruption of the digital image, there is a breaking up of the information, which leaves the viewer to interpret the space between abstraction and figuration.
