VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate ‘One world TB Summit -2023’ at Rudraksh convention centre in the presence of delegates from South America, Africa and Europe on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day on Friday. India’s vision for TB elimination will be showcased through learnings from the National TB Elimination Programmes on the occasion.

Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said that Union health minister Mansukh Mandviya, Governor Anandiben Patel, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and many other dignitaries will take part in the inaugural session of the summit, which is being organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India and Stop TB Partnership- a United Nations hosted organisation that amplifies the voices of the people, communities, and countries affected by TB.

During the event, PM will launch various initiatives including the TB-Mukt Panchayat initiative, official pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), family-centric care model for TB and release of India’s annual TB Report 2023. PM Modi will also award the selected states and districts for their progress towards ending TB.

Chaudhary said that after the inaugural function, the participants will visit health and wellness centres, gram panchayat buildings and meet the community health workers, ANM and village heads to see the progress of the TB elimination programme. During the summit, the PM’s vision to make the country TB free by 2025 would also be discussed to turn it into a reality.

‘One World TB Summit’ will provide an opportunity to further deliberate upon the targets as the country moves forward to meet its TB elimination objectives. It will also be an opportunity to showcase learnings from National TB Elimination Programmes. International delegates from over 30 countries are scheduled to be present at the summit.
