Dear <<First Name>>

This has been an exciting month for WWTW. On Armed Forces Day, WWTW's Expedition Patron, The Duke of Sussex announced the launch of our latest expedition - the Walk of Oman. Over the past 10 years, we have led teams of ex-servicemen and women to the North and South Poles, walked the length of Britain and crossed the USA. As we celebrate our 10th Year Anniversary, The Walk of Oman creates a new challenge and sense of adventure.

This month, we hosted our first webinar exploring 'A Life of Service', the impact of the Armed Forces during the coronavirus pandemic and the contribution of those who serve. Morrisons brought back their popular 'Veterans Pie', we also celebrated Armed Forces Week by sharing stories from across our supporters, staff and volunteers. We shared a story about a family who have been supported through our NCCP programme in the North West, and we announced that we've been shortlisted for the prestigious Mental Health and Wellbeing Award!

The Duke of Sussex launches The Walk of Oman Expedition
The Duke of Sussex launches The Walk of Oman Expedition 2020.

This month, WWTW's Expedition Patron, The Duke of Sussex launched our latest expedition, The Walk of Oman. The Duke will support the challenge as the official Expedition Patron.

Over the course of 21 days, a team of ex-military personnel will attempt to walk 400km across Oman in searing temperatures.

In partnership with the Omani Armed Forces and with generous support from the Royal Office of HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’, the ambitious trek pays homage to the legendary travels Wilfred Thesiger took across the Arabian Peninsula in the 1940s.

Starting on November 20th 2020 and ending December 11th 2020, the walk will take the team across part of the Empty Quarter- the world’s largest sand desert, before bringing the arduous trek to a close on Oman’s Armed Forces Day.

WWTW host exclusive webinar exploring the value of the Military
We live in the most extraordinary times. Individuals, families and businesses have had to adapt to new surroundings. We are all restricted in how we live, but we still need to achieve.

As lockdown has started to ease and a glimmer of normality has started to return, we looked at the military’s involvement during the COVID outbreak and the huge contribution its ex and serving members have made to help those less fortunate. We also explored the value of those who have served in general, their skills and experience acquired while serving their country and the value these men  and women still have to offer businesses and communities alike.

Back by popular demand. Morrisons support Armed Forces Week with 'Veterans Pie'

The ‘Veterans Pie’, created by ex-servicemen from a famous Armed Forces recipe, made its return to Morrisons' stores across the country last week to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

The campaign which was initially launched last year to celebrate Armed Forces Week returned thanks to Morrisons' ongoing support for the Armed Forces Community. Morrisons will donate £10,000 of the sales to Walking With The Wounded to support those who served.

A massive THANK YOU to Morrisons for once again showing support for our ex-military men and women.

Armed Forces Week: Reserves Day Q+A with Scott Briggs
This month we celebrated Armed Forces Week and throughout the week we highlighted stories from across the organisation, demonstrating the impact of those who served.

In our latest blog, we asked WWTW's OP-REGEN Project Officer, Scott to tell us a bit more about what it's like to be a Reservist.

Scott comes from a military family and is passionate about supporting the Armed Forces community. He believes that serving as a Reservist has helped him to break down barriers and build stronger relationships with some of WWTW's beneficiaries.

WWTW provide 'life-line' to family during coronavirus pandemic
Despite the disruption brought by the coronavirus pandemic, the team at WWTW have continued to support our veterans and their families. In this next blog, hear from a family who are being supported through our NCCP Programme in the North West.

"When we first contacted WWTW, we didn't realise how much help we actually needed. Although I’d say that we are a happy strong family, we are facing our own struggles and issues. The team at WWTW helped us to readdress our issues and work through them; enabling us to build better relationships with each other."

WWTW shortlisted for Mental Health and Wellbeing Award
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards are a celebration of effective mental health or wellbeing interventions across the UK. Organisations, charities, health services, providers, professionals, and members of the public were invited to nominate those who have gone above and beyond in making the difference to those experiencing mental health difficulties or helping enhance people’s wellbeing.

WWTW Deputy Operations Director, Amy Franklin said, "It’s fantastic that WWTW has been recognised by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards. There is clear evidence that being unemployed has a negative impact on mental health and wellbeing. There is also clear evidence that people with mental health problems are more likely than others to become unemployed. Our IPS employment and mental health programmes support ex-military men and women towards independence. The two programmes go hand in hand."

Wadi Rum Trek 2021

In February 2021, Walking With The Wounded will be sending a team of supporters out to the Jordanian desert to take on the adventure of a lifetime - trekking 100km to raise funds to support those who served.

You will be trekking 22-25km a day through the majestic Wadi Rum, including the ancient city of Petra (World Heritage site), experiencing Bedouin culture and cuisine, wild camping beneath spectacular desert skies, and summiting Um Dami, Jordan's highest mountain.

The trip is organised by Tribal Tracks founder Charlie Richards, ex Army Officer in the Royal Logistics Corps, who will be looking after all aspects of this exciting trip and you will also be joined by Heather, WWTW's Employment Development Manager, who will be able to share stories with you and inspire you with tales of how your fundraising has transformed lives.
