Abstract. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation or a generalized Davey-Stewartson system appear to describe the macroscopic dispersive evolution of modulated pulses in multidimensional lattices, depending on the presence or absence of (i) a background field and (ii) quadratic interaction forces between neighbors in the original lattice system. We are interested in the rigorous justification of these modulation equations for which we show some first results.
