CHASE Cohort Development Fund

Call for network funding proposals (April 2024):

CHASE invites CHASE funded researchers, postgraduate researchers and staff at CHASE member institutions to bid for funding to support network activities. Networks play an important role in enriching the research environment for postgraduate researchers across CHASE institutions. This funding is intended to support networks delivering events and initiatives that enable postgraduate researchers to network, collaborate, and develop their scholarships.

Networks can be organised around a specific topic or academic discipline, a site of
activism, or researcher wellbeing. CHASE funded researchers, the postgraduate
researcher community more broadly, and people outside of higher education are
all welcome to join these networks. The networks should, however, be led by CHASE.

To apply you must:

  • Be a current CHASE funded doctoral researcher or staff member at a CHASE
institution (Lead applicant/Network Chair) or a postgraduate researcher at a CHASE
    member institution (Co-applicant/Network committee member).

  • Have the permission of your PhD supervisor(s)/line manager to plan and
    deliver the network activities.

Information for staff

Research networks are typically led by doctoral researchers, but networks can also be initiated by staff members at CHASE institutions, as long as the network is focused on supporting and engaging with PGR researchers. Staff-led networks may arise from previous CDF-funded training initiatives, and we encourage previous cohort training organisers to consider developing their activities in this way.

  • Staff can initiate an unfunded network in the same way as doctoral researchers (see:
    www.chase.ac.uk/how-to-start-a-network-faqs).

  • Staff can also apply for seed funding for a network via this call, either as a standalone initiative or as part of a broader project proposal.

  • We would particularly encourage applications from Early Career Researchers.

  • Applications should identify pathways to collaboration across different member institutions.

  • Applications must demonstrate the value of the researcher network in terms of doctoral training.
