Ex-IRS Chiefs Call for Permanent Nominee After Acting Boss Named

The Biden administration’s choice of Douglas O’Donnell for acting IRS commissioner has garnered support from former top agency officials, but the former officials still see it as crucial that the White House quickly announce a permanent nominee for the position.

Former officials said it’s important for a Senate-confirmed commissioner to be in place to lead in agency in determining how the IRS will spend the $80 billion it received in the tax-and-climate law. Some observers also expressed concerns that the confirmation process for a nominee could be slow.
