Queen's Platinum Jubilee: The weird and wacky tributes to Her Majesty

From wacky food to a life-size knitted figure, people across the UK are paying tribute to the Queen ahead of this week's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

As the country gears up to celebrate 70 years of the monarch's reign with street parties, lunches and Union Jacks decorating houses and streets, some have gone a step further to mark the occasion in more unusual ways.

Sky News looks at some of the stranger tributes to the Queen.

Burger Queen

Annie's Burger Shack in Nottingham and Derby is known for its outlandish burgers, posting 34 gourmet options on its menu with a variety of unique ingredients.

To celebrate this week's landmark, owner Anmarie Spaziano came up with the idea of a Jubilee Burger, which includes topping the patty with roast beef slices and royal recipe mushroom cream and Balmoral whisky sauce.

And on top of that is a "silver platter" crouton with mini Melton Mowbray pork pie and Colman's mustard, a Royal Cathedral mature cheddar wedge, coronation chicken ball with fresh pea shoot leaves and a mini Earl Grey lemon chamomile flower scone with lemon clotted cream, Tiptree rindless marmalade, lemon icing and edible English rose petals on top.

The Jubilee Burger will be available for five days.

Queen Victoria (sponge)

Staying in the Midlands, social media star Lara Mason spent five days making a life-sized Victoria sponge cake of the Queen.

The dessert contains 400 eggs, 20kg of flour and 20kg of butter.

It was served up to players at a branch of Buzz Bingo in Birmingham on Tuesday and depicts the 96-year-old wearing a blue sash and silver jewels.

Ms Mason said: "This has been my biggest challenge in my career as the Queen is such a recognised and respected figure - I wanted to do her justice."

Royal yarn

A group of knitters in Holmes Capel, Cheshire, unveiled a life-size woollen Queen, with a pet corgi, over the weekend.

The figure shows the Queen holding a knitted handbag, sash and crown and was created by Holmes Chapel Community Yarn Bombers, who began planning for the Jubilee last July.

They have also decorated the area with knitted bunting, chains, soldiers and post box toppers.

Anita Armitt, 66, who set up the group with a friend, said about 40 women, aged between 10 and 80, came together for the creations.

"It has been wonderful. It's a group of people that actually didn't know each other before and some still haven't met but we speak to each other on Facebook," she said.

"We welcome anybody who wants to have a go and everything that has been made has been utilised."

Miniature majesty

Famed for its extravagant depictions of cities and landmarks, Legoland in Windsor has opened a miniature display of the Royal Family, including a Lego replica of the Queen.

The replica of Her Majesty took 15 hours to build, while the Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their three children also feature in the exhibit.

The display took model makers about 282 hours to build, using more than 18,000 individual blocks.

Chief model maker Paula Laughton said: "The royal connection between Windsor and Her Majesty meant that our model maker team had to pull out all the stops to mark this monumental occasion here in Miniland.

"It's always a joy to be able to recreate iconic moments in British history in Lego form, and we hope guests to the resort will enjoy catching a glimpse of the Queen as they've never seen her and the Royal Family before with a little miniature majesty."

Roast royal seat

Julianne Martin and Donna Pilling, managers of the Bramley Farm in Altrincham, commissioned food artist Nathan Wyburn to make a throne entirely out of roast dinner ingredients, including roast potatoes, broccoli and Yorkshire puddings.

The pub will also celebrate the anniversary with a menu of classic British staples of carvery and cake.

Elizabeth effigy

As part of Orton's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Cumbria, an effigy of the Queen has been unveiled.

It shows a figure with the monarch's face sitting on a throne, while another model shows people camping out.
