Archaeological Department arrived in Ujjain on Wednesday to observe the wall of another thousand-year-old temple at Mahakaleshwar Temple Premises in Madhya Pradesh. Notably, Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, which are said to be the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva in India.
Expansion work is going on under the Smart City project around Mahakal Temple when the wall appeared during the excavation in the temple complex. The wall is said to be the remains of another temple that is said to be almost a thousand years old. This wall was found after digging up to about 25 feet.
The excavation work was stopped after the 1000-year-old wall was found, which was immediately reported to the Ujjain Archaeological Department and the Archaeological Survey of India. After which a 3-member team from Bhopal arrived in Ujjain on Wednesday.

The central team, which reached Ujjain, includes Dr. Piyush Bhatt, superintending archaeologist of the Archaeological Survey of India, Bhopal, and KK Verma in-Charge of Khajuraho Archaeological Museum. The team has reached Ujjain after the directions given by Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel.
On the whole sentence, Dr. Piyush Bhatt said that the thousand-year-old wall that has emerged during the excavation appears to be the remains of an ancient temple. This wall is probably of the tenth or 11th century. The excavation of the temple is also visible. The excavation work is still closed. Dr. Piyush Bhatt said that the administration has been requested to take up the excavation carefully.
The development work which is being carried out by the Mahakal Temple Committee for the convenience of devotees will reportedly cost about Rs. 23 crores.
The complex is being expanded since last year. From parking, toilets, to the main entrance of the Mahakal temple all beautification work will be covered by the committee.
