With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Kenny Mason - “Hit”

Kenny Mason is on the verge of breaking through in Atlanta. Yesterday, the 24-year-old released a Nasser Boulaich-directed music video for his bubbling single “Hit,” mobbing through his hometown in a Braves jersey with his crew. In under three minutes, Mason can deliver reflective raps at a steady pace, slip into mesmerizing chants, and dig deep for a high-pitched melody that sounds inspired by the more established crooners in the ATL. “And I might get a dog, no cap/And I might get my dawg a strap/And I might get a Mike Vick pic autographed/And a mic to get off these raps,” he says, flexing his wordplay. He naturally sprinkles comedic skits throughout the track, which adds another layer of personality without ruining his groove. “So how much you get paid?/I get, I get goddamn half of what you get, you feel me?” says Mason.
