Welcome: PLORAS aphasia eLearning

This eLearning is designed to equip you with strategies to support your interactions and consent processes within the PLORAS study.

We hope that by completing this training you will:

  • have increased confidence consenting participants with aphasia to PLORAS
  • increase your understanding of what aphasia is and the associated challenges in research
  • be aware of some practical strategies that can support conversation in aphasia.
The training is a mixture of written information/strategies and video demonstrations.

There are two parts to the training:

Part 1
  • Designed to equip you with knowledge and practical skills to interact with someone with aphasia.
  • External training from the Aphasia Institute.
  • Takes approximately 40 minutes.
Part 2
  • Demonstrates how to apply these strategies to PLORAS recruitment using the Interaction Aid.
  • Specifically tailored to PLORAS.
  • Takes approximately 40 minutes.

We kindly request
all research practitioners recruiting to PLORAS complete at least Part 2 (if you are not also an SLT)

Please note, this training replaces the previous PLORAS training video and PLORAS quiz which are now redundant.

Please also ensure you have general training in taking informed consent, including assessing capacity/adhering to the Mental Capacity Act (2005), as we do not cover it in detail in our training.

Please note that it is not possible to save your responses to return to at a later point - if you do wish to stop and return to the content later, then we suggest you keep the browser window open.

We hope you find the training interesting and helpful, and welcome any feedback!
