Africa & Arab Countries Gender-Based Violence

This project aims at protecting women workers in Senegal, Uganda and South Africa from Gender-based violence.

The project's long term goal is to see women workers in Senegal, Uganda and South Africa protected against GBV through:

  1. The ratification of the ILO Convention 190 on Ending Violence and Harassment in the World of Work;

  2. Changes to national laws in line with C190; and

  3. The inclusion of GBV clauses in Collective Bargaining Agreements.

C190 on ending violence and harassment in the world of work - an opportunity for unions

Sub Saharan Africa struggles with gender equality, and patriarchy has a direct impact on women in the workplace, and gender-based violence requires urgent attention at a structural level. It is therefore important that C190 is implemented at workplace level, and has a direct impact in creating safer and more accountable workplaces for women workers on the shop floor.

PSI together with Public Sector unions in Uganda is organizing a stakeholders’ engagement meeting on “Ratification of ILO C190 and Recommendation 260 on Elimination of all forms of violence and harassment in the world of work; and the fight against Gender Based Violence”. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 22nd September at Imperial Royale Hotel, in Kampala, Uganda, starting at 8.30AM.
