Times letters: Johnson and the political tipping point

The Times

Sir, Rachel Sylvester (Comment, Nov 3) is right that Boris Johnson has reached a tipping point both within the Conservative parliamentary party and in the country at large. A number of (now former) Conservatives long ago concluded that Johnson was “not fit to hold national office” and it gives no pleasure that many others have come to the same view.

Having helped to give Boris Johnson a majority beyond anyone’s expectations and having secured our departure from the EU, the forces that were once on the fringes of the Conservative Party and who now control it, are now more than willing to ditch Johnson. Such a prospect will delight many but we will not choose his immediate replacement, that will be for the Conservative Party.
