The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and the Chief Constable (CC) are looking for members of the public with who are politically neutral, to sit as independent members of the Joint Audit, Risk and Assurance Panel (JARAP). We are particularly looking for applicants with experience working with or in the public sector or those with financial accountancy experience. We are looking to appoint one new JARAP member for (up to) a four-year period to March 2026.

The JARAP is an important, independent means of enhancing public trust and confidence in the governance of the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner and Leicestershire Police. The purpose of the panel is to provide the independent scrutiny of risk management, performance management, and financial management and governance arrangements. Also, to oversee all audit arrangements, the reviewing of financial statements and ensuring that appropriate risk controls and assurances are in place.

To be successful in this role, you will already have knowledge or interest in local community issues and previous experience in a local or community leadership role. You will be passionate about wanting to make an impact for local residents and will use your enquiring and inquisitive nature to ask questions to gain a clear insight, which will then allow you to stimulate debate and positive change as part of the panel.

You will have excellent communication skills, be confident in speaking up, able to actively participate in meetings and an ability to examine evidence and complex documentation. In this role it is also essential that you are able to take an independent, unbiased view and maintain the highest level of integrity, accountability and honesty in the actions you take.

Applicants are required to be over the age of 18, live or work in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area and be able to attend meetings at Leicestershire Police Headquarters during the working day (currently appropriate Covid 19 related remote procedures apply). The Panel Members will be subject to a police vetting check. Serving police officers or police staff are not eligible for this role.

The successful applicant will receive training, be paid an annual allowance and able to claim reasonable expenses. The current schedule is based on five meetings each year.

At Leicestershire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioners and the Leicestershire Police we are committed to better reflecting the communities that we serve.
