T-Shirt Design Idea Contest

Printable Contest Rules | Printable Official Contest Entry Form

About the Contest: Artists welcome but not required! We are looking for ideas for the next science fair t-shirt, either a description, a sketch, and/or actual artwork.

Who Can Enter the Contest: Anyone 18 or under as an individual or a two member team. Maximum of three entries per individual or team.

Deadline: Friday, November 5, 2021 11:59 pm (postmark or email time stamp)

Award: The winner will receive a free t-shirt. The winner will also be recognized as the t-shirt designer on the t-shirt itself and in the printed GATEway Science Fair program. The winner will be notified by January 1st.

Design Suggestions: Consider using some of the following elements in your design idea.

  • GATEway Science Fair

  • 2022

  • Images/drawings related to general science or science fairs

  • Something appealing to students in grades 3-6

Design Rules:

  • Your submission can be artwork, a written description of your idea, or a combination of both.

  • The design will be centered on the front of the shirt to fit an area no larger than 8”x8”.

  • If you include artwork, it should be created using pen, pencil, markers, or electronic drawing programs.

  • Any artwork should include line art and text, but no photographs. Simple lines similar to a coloring book work best.

  • A design with 4 or fewer colors is ideal.

  • Please note that your design will be rendered by a professional artist and the final version may look different than the artwork you submitted or envisioned, but all efforts will be made to keep the integrity of the idea.

All entries must be accompanied by an official entry form. See the official entry form for submission addresses.

  • Any written description can be included in the body of the email or can be attached in a separate file.

Judging: The GATEway Science Fair Steering Committee will choose the top t-shirt design. Ties between similar submissions will be broken by a random drawing.

Originality: By entering the competition, you agree that your submission is your own work. The design must be your own original, unpublished work and must not include any third-party logos nor copyrighted material.

Right to Edit: The GATEway Science Fair Committee shall have the right to edit, composite, scan, duplicate or alter the entry design for any purpose which it deems necessary or desirable, without the need for any further permission.

Retention of Design: Once your design is submitted to the GATEway Science Fair Steering Committee, it becomes the property of the GATEway Science Fair. The Steering Committee has exclusive rights to the reproduction of all entries and the submitting artists relinquish all rights to such design. This year’s non-winning entries may be used in subsequent years and acknowledgement of the original submitting artist cannot be guaranteed. All proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts will go to the GATEway Science Fair.
